ARTICLE OF THE MONTH:
STUDY SUGGESTS THAT KIDS SUFFER FROM TOO MUCH STRUCTURED PLAY

Sep 25, 2016

If you don’t give kids the chance to manage their time, they won’t learn how to manage their time.

Seems like common sense, right? But as we know, “common sense” is not necessarily common.

Research is now backing up the notion that young children need regular experiences organizing themselves in order to develop their “executive function”.

Another successful Coaches Week in the Okanagan

Oct 1, 2016

Since 2007, British Columbia has celebrated Coaches Week every September to promote the recruitment, development and celebration of coaches in B.C. and the important role they play in sport across the province. Led by ViaSport BC, the event this year featured cost-friendly coach training opportunities, recognition events, contests and a celebration of the work done by coaches across all regions of British Columbia.

Coaches Week in the Okanagan saw a fantastic turnout for the variety of courses that the area had to offer. In order to provide convenient opportunities for all those interested in building their coach certification profiles, one of our goals this year was to host courses outside of Kelowna and promote to some of the smaller rural areas.

The Vernon area facilitated an NCCP Competition - Introduction module "Making Ethical Decisions" that drew over 12 dedicated participants on a Friday night! We were also very happy to host a fun, energetic and successful Fundamental Movement Skills workshop in Enderby to close off the week.
