A Walk-Through of Race Day : PART 2 -
On The Course

Especially for many first time half marathoners, we thought it would be helpful to walk everyone through the process of race day. This way you'll feel like an old pro from the second you drive into the parking area! Here is Part 2 of a series of 3 emails - what to expect on the race course!

On The Course

This is a small town where neighbors have only one option to leave their neighborhoods to get around. This means that none of the course is completely closed to the public on many of these country roads but will be closely managed by police and course monitors. Be aware of your surroundings at all times and stay to the left, facing potential traffic, in any case with smaller roads where there's no clear coning of participants into a traffic lane.
Aid stations are listed here on the website. Know where they are and which ones have Lemon-Lime Gatorade and plan your hydration strategy accordingly.
Know the course. Become a little familiar with the course, maybe look at the elevation profile online to see where any hills are. A 1/4 mile of the race course is on much rougher pavement - watch your footing and it's over quickly.
Know the course time limit if you are in the half marathon and be prepared if it might affect you. The course for this year requires incremental time cutoffs to prevent from bringing the Town of Fairview to a gridlock. Please read the Course Time Limit & Incremental Cutoffs section on the website - click here.
Thank the aid station volunteers who all represent the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of North Texas!
Please also thank the Fairview police, and thank the course monitors who represent the following charitable organizations: Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of North Texas, The Collective for Orphan Care and Education in Kenya, and the McKinney Running Club!
Be sure to fill out the medical section on the back of your race bib. It can save a life. There will be a roving medical crew on the course in case of emergency.
