Dog of the Month - Bandit!

Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier (mix)
Age: est 5/2008
Gender: Male
Coat: short
Altered: yes
Size: medium
Color(s): brown-white

Hi, I'm Bandit an affectionate and active American Staffordshire Terrier mix who was found as a stray. No one came to claim me, so I'm up for adoption. I love people and I've been called a big lap baby. I currently live on a ranch where I'm being fostered and I get to run around with a lot of other larger dogs. I'm not used to being around smaller dogs, so I'd probably do best in a home with larger dogs. Some of my favorite things are getting belly rubs, going for walks and riding in the car. I'm house trained and know the basics - come when called, sit and stay on command. Stop by and meet me and you'll see what  a sweet, lovable and happy boy I am!

 CARL's Golden Oldies!

Through a generous grant by The Grey Muzzle Organization, C.A.R.L. has established “CARL’s Golden Oldies”, a new rescue program focusing specifically on the unique needs of dogs aged 10 and older.

Hi, I'm Cookie a friendly Chihuahua mix who
at 13 years old, still has a lot of love to give.

Senior dogs have so much to give. They are calm and patient, affectionate and loyal. All they ask in return is the same love and care deserving of any pet and a warm place to rest their head.

These animals deserve to spend their remaining time in safe, loving, and secure homes. Those homes will be enriched and brightened by the presence of a loyal companion, one who is often already house trained, calm, and used to the company of people and other pets.

The Problem
Sadly, senior dogs do not always receive that love and care. Senior dogs are considered less “adoptable” than younger pups, and are often overlooked in the crowded shelter environment.

The problem is even more urgent today in Ventura County. The Ventura County Animal Services shelter is overcrowded past capacity, and their no-kill status is at risk.

How the Program Works

The Program
The grant funds provided by The Grey Muzzle Organization go towards the medical and dental care of new senior dogs entering the C.A.R.L. program. These dogs may have been neglected or abandoned and may require medication or even surgery to bring them back to health.

By bringing these dogs into CARL’s Golden Oldies, they can receive individualized attention and care. By putting a spotlight on their unique stories and showcasing them at adoption events, we can help them find homes more quickly. By removing them from the overcrowded VCAS shelter, we help Ventura County remain no-kill.

For as long as these dogs are in the sanctuary, C.A.R.L. volunteers work tirelessly to find them foster homes or new adoptive families. The dogs are showcased on our website, social media, and at special events around the county. At the sanctuary, they receive walks, play time, training, and plenty of love.

Curly, a male Shih Tzu, age 13, loves to take walks.

How You Can Help

The grant does not cover everything senior dogs need. That is why we rely on the support of the Ventura County rescue community. Boarding a dog at C.A.R.L.’s Burnice Kraemer Sanctuary costs roughly $10 per day. This covers food and board, as well as trained staff to care for the animals.

Please consider a tax-deductible donation to support CARL’s Golden Oldies. Donate $10, and you will cover their care for a day. Donate more, and you can make an even greater difference in the lives of homeless senior dogs.

Cowboy, age 10, has received some training (eye contact, basic skills etc), Here's a YouTube link that shows Cowboy in action: https://youtu.be/L6VmBGV_-Dc
