Pennies for Patients

STUCO is sponsoring a Coin Drive to help the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society:

Who: JPII students

What: Coin Drive

When: September 28th-October 19th

Where: JPII classrooms

Why: To help those affected by blood cancer and all cancer

From September 28th-October 19th, bring in all your loose change to help the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society! Your money will go to helping find a cure for blood cancer.

Each class has a goal of $50. If all classes reach this goal, we will have a school sock hop! The class with the highest earnings will participate in a NACHO PARTY!

On Wednesdays, if you bring in $1, you may have a crazy hat, crazy sock, or spirit day.

If you bring in $1 on Fridays, you may have a RED Friday and wear either a Chiefs shirt or red shirt with your uniform bottoms.

Auction/Raffle Ticket Sales
 

The Auction is 2 weeks away!  Auction and Raffle tickets will be sale the next two weekends.  Check out the link below for open time slots where your family can help sell tickets.

Each family that signs up to work a shift after Mass will receive an Out of Uniform pass!  Also, any tickets sold during this time will count toward your family goal of (10) tickets!  The HART FAMILY has sold almost $700 in tickets over the past few weeks - WAY TO GO!!

Winsteads Instead Middle School Raffle
 

Have lunch at Winsteads, on a school day, during the regular school lunchtime, with other auction lunch winners and your Middle School teachers!
 

GREAT FUN and SUPER MEMORIES!!


Your choice of hamburgers or cheeseburgers, French fries or onion rings, and soda!  Top that off with the traditional SKYSCRAPER RACE!!

Purchase Winsteads Instead raffle tickets from your teacher.  Tickets cost $1.00 each or (12) for $10.00.
On Thursday, October 13th, seven names will be drawn.  At the Auction, on Saturday, October 15th, one more name will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.  (Tentative lunch date will be Thursday, October 20th.)


Eight students will get to enjoy lunch provided by:  Mrs. Ahern, Mrs. Lee, Mrs. Macan, Ms. Starks and Mrs. Van Dyke.

“Vote for JPll The Election” Auction Updates!

I know some of you are wondering “What should I wear to the auction?”  Well wonder no more! In the spirit of our theme this year “The Election” Vote for JPll, we are suggesting you wear your JPll spirit wear. If you don’t have any of your own or find any to borrow for the night, just wear some red, white or blue. Pair your tops with some nice blue jeans and enjoy our casual environment while you shop for items and get a head start on your Christmas list.

*Decorating work meetings begin at 6:00pm but come when you can, we are flexible :)

50/50 Money Pot update:
Right now we are sitting at almost $4000! Who wouldn’t want half of that? For $10 no less!

Please keep selling those raffle tickets and let’s get that amount even higher! Want an easy way to sell? Sign up to sell after masses these next two weekends and sell the required 10 tickets in no time.

JPII Holiday Shoppe
 

Are you crafty?  Do you like to shop locally?  Well, we have news for you - the JPII Holiday Shoppe is back! 

Where:  Queen of the Holy Rosary Church Basement
             7023 W. 71st Street
             Overland Park, KS 66204
When:  Saturday, December 10th (9am-6pm)
            Saturday, December 11th (8am-2pm)

Staff Spotlight

Name:  Lauren Starks
Job Title:  Middle School English/ 8th Grade Homeroom
How long have you been teaching?  Starting my 7th year
How long have you been at JPII?  This is my 3rd year teaching at JPII, but I've been here 12 years if you count when I was a student here!
Family Members:  2 sisters - Leslie and Leah, Mom - Barb
Hobbies/Interests:  Cooking, traveling, spin class, long coffee shop visits
What do you love most about working at JPII?  I love being back "home"!  I love the smaller class sizes and getting to genuinely know my students.

Any fun facts you would like to share about yourself?  I surfed for the first time this summer in Santa Barbara.  I Irish danced competitively for 8 years.  I was a college volleyball coach for 2 years in South Dakota.
HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK
8th Graders measuring the speed of a marble and discovering what factors affect the speed of an object.
 
7th  graders have been learning about how materials such as carbon, water and nitrogen cycle through Earth’s systems.
6th grade had a Master Composter. Mae Christenson, from the Johnson County  Extension Bureau come and speak to them about starting a composting project at school.
5th Graders made sundials and took them outside to observe how shadows change throughout the day.
4th Grade completed their projects on landforms.
Third graders are learning about the life cycle of plants by growing a lima bean and making observations each day.
