Fall Leaf Pickup

During fall leaf pickup, specially equipped trucks vacuum up piles of leaves placed by the roadside.  It's a labor intensive process and takes several days just to go through the village once, but it can take much longer depending on the accumulation of leaves and weather conditions.  Please follow these guide lines to assist collection:
  • Please be sure to place loose leaves on the lawn at the curbside but NOT in the roadway.
  • Make sure that storm water inlet grates are kept clear to ensure proper drainage.
  • Please remove any obstructions from the roadway edge, as these slow the pickup process and can pose a hazard to our work crews.
  • Please keep yard waste and branches separate from leaf piles to assist collection (visit the Village Household and Yard Refuse webpage for more information on brush pickup).
Loose leaf collection begins October 15th thru December 15th.  Click here for a tentative Fall leaf pickup schedule.  However, please be advised that winter weather may hamper collection efforts.  Residents should put out leaves for pickup as early as possible, and if conditions permit, we will continue to collect loose leaves as long as possible into December.

Brush Pruning

Brush pruning will take place October 15th thru December 15th, which is the same for fall leaf collection.  For public safety, property owner's brush needs to be pruned no less than 12 1/2 feet overhanging streets and no less than 8 feet overhanging sidewalks.  When overhanging brush has not been pruned in the Village's right-of-way before October 15th, DPW crews will do the job.

Our Department of Public Works(DPW) cannot perform any work on PRIVATE PROPERTY.

The Village would like to inform all residents that if they choose to do their own brush pruning or choose to have their landscapers do the brush pruning, the work must be completed before our DPW crews go out on October 15th.  Pruning is essential for safety reasons - in terms of visibility and clear paths for walkers, joggers, and cyclists, as well as better visibility for the Public Works Department staff who operate on the sidewalk plow winter.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Village DPW at 607-257-6166 or the Clerk's office at 607-257-1238.

CHFD Open House: October 1

The Annual CHFD Open House will be held on Saturday, October 1st from 11am-2pm. Come visit your all-volunteer, neighborhood fire department to see and experience what they do.  There will be food, truck rides, demonstrations, and more!  This family-friendly event is free and open to the entire community.  Hope to see you there!

New Bobcat T590 Compact Track Loader

The Village purchased a new Bobcat T590 compact track loader.  With the highest lifting height in the 500 platform and off road abilities, the Bobcat T590 compact track loader is ideal for loading and unloading tasks.  It also features many attachments including a bucket, broom, curve sweeper, asphalt grinder, snowblower, and mower.  This little guy will empower our Village DPW crew to do their jobs more efficiently and effectively.
