Meet Our Marathon Team: Brian

The 2016 Bank of America Chicago Marathon is only a few days away! Team CWHC has worked incredibly hard over the past months, training and fundraising like champions, and we are so proud of them.

This month, we'd like to introduce you to the final member of Team CWHC, Brian:

What is your marathon-running history? This Chicago Marathon will be my sixth marathon. This year I am also training to run my third ultramarathon in November, the JFK 50 mile.

What are your long-distance running strategies - what do you do to stay focused, to keep going, and to enjoy yourself while running?  Running itself focuses me, which is why I enjoy it so much. So I usually just lock in to listening to my body, letting my mind wander, and enjoy pushing my limits.

What do you do when you aren’t running?  I do a lot of activism in the city.

Complete the following sentence: I’m running for revolutionary health care because…
Affirming, quality, affordable health is a human right.

We're thrilled that you're part of our team for a second year, Brian! Support Brian and CWHC by donating here.

CWHC staff members will be cheering at Mile 11 and Mile 20 on Sunday; all are welcome to join the cheer squads.
See you on the race course!

Welcome CWHC Interns! (Part 1)

Dedicated interns are an integral part of CWHC, and we have to incredible interns joining us this academic year. This month, we'd like to introduce you to Kris, our Development Intern, who is a second year social work graduate student at the University of Chicago.

What interested you about CWHC?
I'm very excited to be doing my practicum in a feminist, trans-affirming, and client centered environment this year. I'm also really drawn to CWHC's collective structure and looking forward to being part of an organization that values shared leadership and wisdom.

What are you most looking forward to, in your time with CWHC?
I cannot wait to get to know members of the collective better and learn from them. It's really exciting to be part of a team with such a range of experiences and perspectives. I know I'm going to learn a ton this year!

Who do you look to for feminist inspiration!?
Sylvia Rivera is a personal hero of mine. I have deep admiration for the way she was able to fight against violent and oppressive systems while also providing so much love and care to other queer and trans folks. That combination of activism and community building is something I hope to emulate in my own life.

Welcome, Kris!
