Happiness Factor:  I just read that 40% of population is experiencing bouts of anxiety daily.  And anxiety attacks are on the increase at 10 – 15% per year.  The idea of being happy vs filled with fear and anxiousness is a valid one.  We can choose to skip many moments of anxiety with some very simple techniques that can work for us in anxious and difficult situations.  I am pleased to provide several for you:
Breathe -  three deep breaths in any difficult moment(s) will let your body know that you are ok and that oxygen is coming to help you out. Set your alarm for a morning and afternoon break to breathe deeply.
Relax your shoulders – our shoulders are stiff and raised most of our waking hours. A very simple and quick technique to take the strain out of your neck and shoulders is to do a series of shoulder rolls. Roll those shoulders up and back and around and feel your stress and tightness ease.
Grab a container of water and take a deep drink. Hydration is critically important for your body and brain function. Water is the best way to stay hydrated.
Movement – wall pushups can be done pretty much anywhere – try doing 10 each time you visit the restroom. Not only will you reduce anxiety, but you will start building some muscle.
Find a way to hold onto positive thoughts so you can feel safe and motivated. People poo poo affirmations, but sharing good thoughts with yourself on a consistent basis connects with the good positive chemicals in your brain.
"This we can all bear witness to, living as we do plagued by unremitting anxiety . It becomes more and more imperative that the life of the spirit be avowed as the only firm basis upon which to establish happiness and peace."
 -  Dalai Lama
The Art of Happiness by Dalai Lama XIV,
Howard C. Cutler

Nearly every time you see him, he's laughing, or at least smiling. And he makes everyone else around him feel like smiling. He's the Dalai Lama, the spiritual and temporal leader of Tibet, a Nobel Prize winner, and an increasingly popular speaker and statesman. What's more, he'll tell you that happiness is the purpose of life, and that "the very motion of our life is towards happiness." How to get there has always been the question. He's tried to answer it before, but he's never had the help of a psychiatrist to get the message across in a context we can easily understand. Through conversations, stories, and meditations, the Dalai Lama shows us how to defeat day-to-day anxiety, insecurity, anger, and discouragement. Together with Dr. Cutler, he explores many facets of everyday life, including relationships, loss, and the pursuit of wealth, to illustrate how to ride through life's obstacles on a deep and abiding source of inner peace. Click here.
