PTA of PS 154 Newsletter

Dear Parents and Friends of PS 154,

Wow–it’s October already! We’d like to extend a special congratulations to our kindergarten parents on this one-month milestone. We all know how challenging the transition to a K-5 school can be, and you and your children have our best wishes for a wonderful school year. We hope that all our students, in every grade, are joining in The Windsor Terrace School’s enthusiasm for learning and community.

Please read the following newsletter at your leisure. We have updates on the wonderful school programs that you–the PTA–pay for, upcoming events, hot tips on how to stay organized with our busy school calendar, and how to earn “free money” for our school. Last but not least, please scroll to the bottom for a big THANK YOU to those of you who have already contributed to our PTA annual fund!

We appreciate each of you as members of our PTA of PS 154 community. We know how much you care about your children and their education. We truly value your family’s contribution to making The Windsor Terrace school great.

We hope to see you at our next PTA meeting on October 19 at 8:30am

Sincerely,
Jodi Harris, PTA of PS 154 President
Zoë Kashner, PTA of PS 154 President-Elect

PROGRAMS

Our PTA-funded programs have already begun. Teachers are using their $570 teacher grants to purchase supplies that benefit every child. Author visits and assemblies are being planned. Every child has had at least a few classes with Ms. Gabel, who teaches our PTA-funded music program.  Coach Sean, who is also funded by our PTA, has been present for most of every school day, helping Ms. Moore with Physical Education as well as being our daily recess coach. If you pick your child up in the schoolyard, Sean is the person who is monitoring the gates. Please say hello–your kids already love him, and so will you!

For in-class enrichments, first grade chess has already begun, and second grade capoeira will kick off soon this October. Every grade will get an in-class enrichment at some point during this year. The only way we can bring this to you is through our fundraising–both with school events and direct contributions to the PTA Annual Fund. Thank you for supporting your child's school!

If you have any questions or ideas to share about in-class enrichments, assemblies, author visits, or any other one of our PTA-funded programs, please contact PTA Chair of Programs Stacy Margolis

Winter Fair and Rafflemania Auctions

PS 154’s Winter Fair is December 6, and the date for our February event, Rafflemania, is still TBD. However, we need help NOW. The Auctions and Sponsorships Committee is looking for a few more recruits to join our team and lend a hand gathering donations. Most of this work is accomplished through email, so if you can spare a bit of screen time to reach out to donors, we could really use your help. No experience necessary! Additionally, if you have something you'd like to donate or you have a contact that could lead to a donation, please pass that info along

Last year, Winter Fair and Rafflemania events raised over $35,000 for our school and were the two biggest fundraising events of the year. Please consider how you can contribute to their continued success by donating time, energy, and/or auction items. Every donation is greatly appreciated and no donation is too small or too large!

To join the Auction and Sponsorships Committee or make a donation, please contact Chair of Auctions and Sponsorships Anna Patscha

PS 154’s Community Drawing

This year we are excited to announce our Community Drawing. FREE MONEY

Support our school by shopping! Here are three easy ways to get donations for PS 154.

Visit Mabel’s Labels on the web to order dishwasher- and washer/dryer-safe labels with your kid's name on them for everything from backpacks and clothes to school supplies and food containers. Mabel's Labels will donate 20% of every purchase. Click on the "Support a Fundraiser" banner on their site and then choose PS154 Brooklyn from the dropdown menu.
Please bookmark this link before you start shopping on Amazon and 0.4% of your purchase will go to PS 154. Use it every time you shop!
Look for the Box Tops for Education logo on dozens of products. Here's a complete list. Clip the logos before you toss your empty packages, then collect them in a ziplock bag or envelope and place them in the PTA mailbox in the main office. Include your child's name and class number (example: Sally Brown, Class 1-101). The class with the most box tops submitted will receive special recognition and a prize!

PTA LEADERSHIP

Congratulations to PTA Executive Board members elected at the September PTA meeting! Please take a look at our PTA Committees, which are always looking for people to join, as well as the roster of our complete 2016-2017 PTA Executive Board.

Thanks to everyone who was able to join us for our September PTA meeting. If you were unable to addend, please check out the meeting minutes and newly voted in bylaws.

PTA ANNUAL FUND

Our Annual Fund is off to a wonderful start: as of September 30th we’ve raised $13,544! If you’re new to PS 154, our annual fund will go towards all of the amazing programs that all of our children enjoy such as chess, dance, recess coaching, music, and more. We are asking each family to contribute $400 per child or any amount that you can

We would love for our school to reach 100% participation across all grades this year. If you can contribute $400 for your child, and please—if you can—consider supplementing the costs of another child in our school. As always, your deductions are fully tax-deductible.
