This week's new and special...

THE WINTER SQUASH ARE ON THE WAY…………
This is an Italian heirloom squash, possibly Paicentina.  Super hard squash !! Long lasting and beautiful.  We are gearing up for bringing the truck load down to Santa Monica.. I hope to know details by this Wednesday.   Much better harvest than last year, with more good vines available  on the squash.  Going out to the field to take pictures was very fun. The leaves are starting to die down so that lets me see who has been hiding underneath.  We planted more of the really hard skin varieties as they are so much more resistant to the beetles. And we have yet to have too many blue hubbard !!!

TOMATOES -
We are flush with late harvest cherry tomatoes.  Sungolds are the best ever for this time of year.  Such a crazy late season  for some of us !  Romas and slicers have great intense flavor and texture, but more mixed sizes than usual. We have some giants still hanging out there! Everyone is probably hoping for a late frost so we can get more of this beautiful late fruit off the plants.

APPLES -
Coolers are full. We are  waiting for the last couple varieties to come in.  We will start to be able to give you actual inventories of varieties so you can reserve your choices for the holidays.  Our goal is to have your holiday apples set aside and labeled for you.

GREENS -
Rustic arugula is declaring itself on holiday, while the regular arugula is coming along beautifully. Newly planted and transplanted varietes are hiding under cover.  Avoiding the heat and the rabbits.  It seemed so strange to discover that medium weight row cover is our best friend all year long - hot or cold!!!.

HERBS -
Still strong on Basil, Lemon Verbena, Scented Geraniums and garlic chive flowers ! Some perennials are getting ready for a fall flush.
