Wojan’s Double-Hung Featured in Restoration of Historic Chicago Complex

Charlevoix, Mich. (September 2016) – Michigan-based commercial window and door manufacturer Wojan Window & Door, was involved in the rehabilitation of the former Michigan Boulevard Garden Apartments in Chicago, which is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The now-named Rosenwald Courts is a 435,000 square foot development in the Bronzeville neighborhood on the south side of Chicago that was originally built as affordable housing in 1929 by Sears’ founder Julius Rosenwald. The massive renovation project took place over the last two years, resulting in living, retail and commercial space. For it, Wojan supplied more than 2,000 1600H Series Double-Hung windows with a custom, dual-color, redwood and black finish.

Approved by the National Park Service for the project, the 1600H is an historic aluminum double-hung window; a re-engineered version of Wojan’s M1500 Double-Hung launched in 2014. It features a 3 5/8” bottom sash rail and a modified glass package to achieve an historic look, plus highly versatile dual accessory channels which aided in installation. Adding the 1600H to Wojan’s line gives the company an opportunity to capture a wider range of projects and continue the steady growth they’ve seen over the last five years.

The development of the 1600H Series also demonstrates Wojan’s capabilities in custom engineering windows and accessories to fit sometimes challenging project specifications. Some of the more innovative parts they’ve developed include a proprietary “transition accessory” for window to façade, pre-set historic panning, and a structural 90 degree 3-piece mull for their projected window models.

The 1600H Double-Hung is the latest in a string of new product debuts for Wojan, including the
above-mentioned M1500 Double-Hung, the 2125/2140 Series of Replacement Sliding Glass Doors and the architecturally-rated (AW) M-950 Series Horizontal Slider.
