Welcome to another monthly update from the Collinsville Connect Telecentre. September saw the long awaited Collinsville Scottville Kindy 50 year Reunion take place - we have all the photos for you below - and the launch of another Pit Pony mural in front of the kindergarten building.

The Collinsville Connect Telecentre is once again organising the Community Calendar and looking for 2017 events to add to the pages! Events range from Birthdays and Anniversaries, to community organised fundraisers and more. You can email us on the email above, or drop in to the CCT to find out more. We also have a few advertising spots left so let us know if you'd like your business on display.

Has your computer been behaving itself lately? We pride ourselves on our prompt computer repairs, so if you think things aren't quite right, drop your computer in to the CCT and we'll check it out for you. We also have some brand new systems, loaded with Windows 10 ready to go - save yourself a trip to Bowen or beyond, and buy your new system here in Collinsville.

Collinsville Scottville Kindergarten 50 Year Reunion

On Saturday, the 17th of September the Collinsville Scottville Kindergarten celebrated 50 years in operation with a reunion market day. Hundreds turned up to catch up with old friends, teachers, and to enjoy the day’s events. The Kindy would like to thank all who were able to attend. The kindy would also like to that the RADF committee for the grant of $2700 for the new outdoor “Old Women in a Shoe’ wall and timber bridge. This wall was signed by all!

The original Collinsville Scottville Kindergarten was established through community fundraising 50 years ago, it is certainly heartening to see the same community spirit alive today!

At the Reunion the latest Pit Pony Mural was unveiled – painted by Desma Munro. The original painting is now being offered in a raffle to raise funds that continue to contribute to the creation of more murals for our town. The raffle tickets are currently available for purchase at the Queensland Country Credit Union in Collinsville.

A New Mural for the Pit Pony Experience!

At the kindy reunion the new Pit Pony Mural was launched - painted by local artist Desma Munro. Nearly 12 months have passed since the unveiling of the Collinsville Pit Pony, and while the statue has quickly become a part of the landscape, its great to see the community continuing to tell the story of the ponies through paintings such as these.

A quick reminder - do you know of any great stories about the Pit Ponies from your own family history? We'd love to keep updating the Pit Pony Experience website with your stories. We'd also love photos of people interacting with the horse - Pit Pony Selfies! The Collinsville Pit Pony is built to be climbed on, so hit us with your best shots!

Sad Passing of Digger Murphy

We've received news this week that local Collinsville hero Vale Digger Murphy passed away on the 23rd of September, aged 97. Digger's father was one of the earliest miners in Collinsville, and Digger grew up here in the bag humpies of the 1920s. Although Digger began his time in the mines in Ipswich, he was greatly affected by the Collinsville Mine Disaster and the outcome of the investigation. He went on to become District Check Inspector, and then Queensland President of the Miner's Federation. For more details about Digger's contribution to the safety of the industry click here.
