                                           Fall 2016

Dear Friends,

As the leaves begin to change and the air gets cooler, Kids' Club is happy to look back on the camp, literacy and college prep programs we funded for underserved youth this past summer. We also share highlights from the community gatherings we hosted this year in support of these and other programs.

Most recently, on September 15th, Kids' Club was delighted to host over 200 guests at The Lodge at Hudson Harbor for "A Bridge to a Brighter Future." This friend-raising event helped spread the word about the work we have been doing since 2009 to help close gaps in services and increase opportunities for 1,500 children in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow each year. The feedback on the night has been tremendous. As one guest reported, "I was really inspired by the sense of community spirit in the room, local pride, and commitment to making things better for the next generation." We couldn't have asked for more, and extend our deepest thanks to everyone who helped make the evening such a success.

Please see more below on those who made this event possible, and don't miss the inspiring video created especially for the night that viewers are still talking about.

With thanks for your continued interest and support,
Jennifer Liddy Green
President

A BRIDGE TO A BRIGHTER FUTURE

The success of "A Bridge to a Brighter Future" would not have been possible without the generosity of our sponsors, shown above. We also send our sincere gratitude to Emily Burley for designing our beautiful invitation and to Mary Lazin and Stephanie Fuller for their help with our décor. Thank you to each and every one who donated to this wonderful community gathering, and to all of our enthusiastic guests who helped make this an unforgettable eveningWe couldn't have done it without you!

No doubt the most memorable part of the night was the presentation of a moving video highlighting the exceptionalism of our community and 3 of the 20 different programs that Kids' Club supports. We are indebted to Abe Falek, Joe Golden and Carolyn Oppenheim for the time and thought they put into creating this unforgettable testimonial. To enjoy this five minute video for yourself, please click here:

SUMMER PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Without Kids' Club's help, summer would look very different for the children of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow. Because of our support of scholarships to wonderful recreational summer camps such as Village Tot Camp, Village Day Camp and the TUFSD Multi-Arts Camp, and the funding assistance we gave to the RSHM LIFE Center's Summer Camp and the Foundation for the Public School of the Tarrytown's Summer Literacy Program for Rising First and Second Graders, hundreds of local children spent their summer break engaged in safe, enriching, educational and fun activities. We also helped facilitate rewarding camp experiences at The Hackley School and The Summer Camp in Maine. Securing financial aid for summer camps was one of Kids' Club's first initiatives, and we are thrilled to continue to play an important role in making summer meaningful for so many of our community's youth.

BREAKFAST FOR BEDDING

On June 16th, Kids’ Club was happy to host its third annual "Breakfast for Bedding." More than 50 guests gathered to collect new bedding and Bed, Bath & Beyond gift cards for Sleepy Hollow High School's Let’s Get Ready* (“LGR”) graduates preparing to attend college this fall. Some of this year’s LGR students were at the event and got first pick from the lovely assortment of bedding collected. Former LGR graduate Imani F. told the gathering about the impact this Kids’ Club supported college prep program had on her college path and how excited she was to return to the program as a site director. Thank you to all of the friends and neighbors who donated to the drive, making it our most successful Breakfast yet!

*Let's Get Ready is a nine-week, college coaching and SAT tutoring program which utilizes trained, local college students as coaches to help underserved students get to and through college. Approximately 40 college bound seniors from SHHS, many first generation, participate in the summer program free of charge.

NAPPIES FOR NEIGHBORS

10,000 diapers were collected in March thanks to generous friends who attended "Nappies for Neighbors," our first ever diaper drive. Over 40 friends came to drop off diapers, and many stayed to mingle and learn more about Kids’ Club, while enjoying tea sandwiches and yogurt parfaits. The diapers were distributed to three of our grantees: Smart Babies, Smart Toddlers, and Open Door Family Medical Centers.

Smart Babies teacher Rocio Minchalo thanked Kids’ Club for their ongoing support of the early learning and literacy programs Smart Babies and Smart Toddlers. Alisha Blanks and Rhina Ledesma, of the Open Door Women Infant Child (WIC) nutrition support program were also in attendance, and Alisha described the early intervention services provided by Open Door, which are crucial to helping new mothers and babies get a healthy start.

THANK YOU DONORS

With your help, Kids' Club has funded nearly $600,000 in much needed programs for children in our community. Your generosity continues to affirm the value of the work Kids' Club does, and motivates us to keep at it! We truly appreciate your support as we enter our 8th year of helping underserved youth and their families.

Please be on the look out for our once a year request for donations this November, when Kids' Club reaches out with our annual appeal. But if you are inspired to donate right away, we invite you to our website's Donate Now page (http://www.kidsclubtarrytown.org/donate-now) to show your support with an on-line gift. Our Board of Directors pays for all administrative costs, so 100% of your donation goes to help children in need.
