THE WRAP

Welcome to the September edition of the Thin Red Line!

The past week has seen our attention turn to supporting our Victorian Junior State Team in their Australian Junior Squash Championships campaign in Sydney.

We've had a number of fantastic results from our next generation of stars, with the most notable being Jessica Graham securing the national Under 19 Girls title after a thrilling five-game final. Well done Jess!

Dylan Molinaro also impressed on his way to reaching the Under 15 Boys final, and was unlucky to go down in another gruelling decider that went the distance.

Overall, we have been extremely proud of the way all our Victorian representatives have acquited themselves while competing against the best in the nation for their respective age groups.
For more information on the Australian Junior Squash Championships, check out the news items below.

In other news this month, we were pleased to announce that Choice Home Loans has joined us a funding partner for our junior development programs.

We thank David Honey from Choice Home Loans for his support of our juniors, and you can read more about the new partnership in the news items below.

Coming up in October, a selection of the best regional squash players in the state will battle it out at the Victorian Country Individual Squash Championships on October 8-9, while the racquetball community's attention is firmly fixed on the Australian Open Racquetball Championships, which are happening just over the border in Albury from October 14-16.

Check out all the upcoming events of the S&RV calendar below.

Remember, contributions to the THIN RED LINE are always welcome! If you have any news about your club, venue, region, etc. that you would like included in the newsletter, please let us know - ben@eskimomediagroup.com.au.

ABOUT THE CLUB

The Corio Squash Club started in 1973 playing at the Squash courts in Separation Street in North Geelong.

The courts were demolished in 1983 for a shopping centre, leading to the club playing out of various centres until it moved into the new Leisuretime Centre in 1987. Today, the Leisuretime Centre venue has eight glass back courts, complete with a mezzanine floor and viewing area.

CSC has around 50 members, with 35 playing pennant in 11 teams in the local Geelong Squash & Racquetball Association pennant competition.

Corio is a family-oriented club with pennant playing members ranging from as young as 10 through to 65.

Our junior program has been running over the last ten years, with numbers continuing to increase.

Demonstrating the family culture within the club are the family teams currently playing in the pennant competition:

  • Corey, Charlie & Jordan Robertson (father and 2 sons)
  • Cathy, Jacqui & Taylah Dyer (grandmother, daughter & granddaughter)
  • Alexis & Ben Jacimovic (brother & sister)

Major upcoming events for the CSC include the Regional Junior Squash development (coaching & event) on November 13, as well as the Geelong Open Squash Championships in February 25 & 26, 2017.
