Here along the way but I,
This Autumn evening.

Dear Friends:

Summer is over, I guess. That familiar chill in the wind - the deserted streets. It's midnight and the Village is desolate. I am walking alone from 14th street to west 10th and there's not a soul on the streets. The first glimmer of cold weather and everyone stays away. Bracing myself as I walk, I make my way to that familiar, weather beaten door at 183 west 10th - like a battered fortress gate, survivor of many battles. I pull open the door and am greeted with a waft of warm air and the familiar strain of jazz being played. Carlos, seated at the bottom of the stairs, smiles like the Cheshire Cat - that smile that tells me "shit is happening". I walk by him and then dive into the tumultuous din of a packed club full of smiling, laughing, happy people. Jazz is being played with vigor and drive. Drinks are being served. Cats are hanging. Folks are socializing. In this jazz-oasis, autumn is an illusion. We are warmed by the music and the company. All is right in the world here...

I look forward to seeing everyone at the clubs - as always some great shows this week. Please come on out and join us.
