Reframing Health & Human Services Workshop October 26th & 27th

Please join the One Voice Communications Committee as they host two days of workshops held by the National Human Services Assembly to mobilize around exciting new research that will shift the current narrative on human services from “aid to the needy” to making sure “everyone reaches their full potential.” Through the workshops NHSA staff will train participants to use reframing techniques to produce templates for key documents used by One Voice and participants' organizations. Day 1 covers the basics of reframing and is the same as the reframing training that was held in April. Day 1 is an opportunity for individuals who missed the training held in April to learn the basics of reframing. Day 2 takes a deeper dive into the reframing process and is open to those that attend the Day 1 workshop or those that attended the training in April.

DAY 1 OCTOBER 26TH:

Level 1 Reframing Workshop 8:00am – 12:30pm:

  • Participants will learn about how the public’s current understanding of human services limits active engagement with, and prioritization of, the sector.
  • Participants will learn about the Building Well-Being narrative, a research-based narrative for human services that increases public support for the sector.
  • Participants will learn about the tools and resources available to them as they begin to apply the Building Well-Being narrative to their communications.

DAY 2 OCTOBER 27TH:

Level 2 Reframing Workshop 8:00am – 12:30pm:

  • Participants will receive a brief refresher on the elements of the Building Well-Being narrative and will practice applying the narrative to sample communications.
  • Participants will learn about additional framing elements that inform public perceptions of an issue, including tone, personal stories, and the use of data.
  • **Participants will apply the frame to a communications piece from their organization.**

Breakfast will be served from 8:00am - 8:30am each day. Location TBD. Registration is required. The event is free for One Voice members to attend. If you are not a One Voice member and would like to attend, the cost of the event is $30 and you can email caity@onevoicecentraltx.org for more infromation.

Featured Member of the Week

David C. Smith, CEO, United Way for Greater Austin
Number of Years as CEO: 5 months
How did you become interested in this work?
My passion is bringing people together to address the larger issue of poverty, and the thousands of issues and challenges that people living in poverty experience every day.
Did you have a mentor or role model?
So many! I’m learning from everyone I meet. The longer I do this, the more I realize how much I have to learn, and I’m grateful to have some of the best teachers/mentors in Austin.
What drives your passion?
The fundamental belief that we are all interconnected. Your struggle is my struggle, and mine is yours. I believe that when we join together, there is no challenge we can’t meet. So I want to do all I can every day to unite with good people and causes, and make real change in our neighbors’ lives.
