My Recent Trip to India

This August I traveled to India. I followed an internal nudging to begin considering expanding my global mission of education, life skills training and fresh water initiatives to other countries in addition to Cambodia. In a short blog recently, I posted about an excursion with Raj and Santosh from the town of Bodh Gaya to the hills of Dungeswari in the Bihar region of India. On the way back from seeing the famous cave of Buddha, they pulled the motorbike over and turned off the engine. For a brief moment, I questioned their motives. After all, I did not know them and I was following my gut instinct to embark across the terrain of India with them because it felt right. I asked, 'Why are we stopping?" The bike driver Santosh said, "I have to show you something." They both walked me into a small settling of huts (I couldn't even call it a village) where I witnessed some of the worst conditions to date. Even after a dozen years of work in Cambodia, this was the most impoverished I'd seen first hand. They had a broken well and the 50 or more men, women and children were drinking and bathing from a large mud hole adjacent to their settlement. I had never mentioned anything to Raj or Santosh about my years of well digging but here they were, showing me something I was quite familiar with. I discussed the repair process with both of them and relinquished the funds to make it happen. I wasn't sure if they would follow through or keep the money for themselves. My heart was overjoyed they followed through.

Voluntour - Journey to Cambodia
January 19 - 30, 2017

Here was the humble beginning - the first class on a straw mat in 2009 in Siem Reap, Cambodia. That year I found out I had been approved by The People's Party of Cambodia to create a non-government regulated school. 11 people joined me and we each had a straw mat with more than 15 children hanging on our every word. Today we have a full campus in Siem Reap, complete with multiple classrooms, IT Tech Center, Sewing and Fine Arts spaces, library and fresh water accessibility as well as an extension school in the village of Nokor Krau. This coming January's trip may be the last for awhile as I celebrate the calling to take the success we've achieved and replicate it in other parts of the world. More than 120 people have traveled and experienced this deeply fulfilling experience of connection. A minimum of 6 spaces are left for this January's paradigm shifting immersion into the Cambodian culture. I celebrate our two amazing schools and would love for you to see it before these yearly trips venture into other territories. "David listens intently, asks probing questions, and then gently guides the student who is willing to leap into the unknown realm of true potential. The result is that I was challenged, coming face to face with beliefs I had not been aware were blocking me. David is an amazing catalyst. His encouragement has helped me to open the door to my own soul."
