URIS – NETWORK OF UKRAINIAN RESEARCH
IN SWITZERLAND

We are pleased to introduce the first URIS fellow, who will teach at the University of Basel in the 2017 spring semester and take part in URIS activities throughout Switzerland.
Prof. Dr. Georgiy Kasianov was born in Chelyabinsk (Russia) in 1961. He obtained a degree in history and social sciences from the National Pedagogical University of Kiev in 1983 before completing his doctorate in history at the National Academy of Sciences. Professor Kasianov has now been Head of the Department of Contemporary History and Politics at the Institute of Ukrainian History at the National Academy of Sciences in Kiev for more than ten years. His research interests are the social, political and cultural history of Ukraine in the 19th and 20th centuries. He is currently working on a monograph about the politics of history in Ukraine since the 1980s. Prof. Kasianov will teach a course in Basel on “History, Cultural Memory and Politics: Ukraine and the Post-Communist Space”.

We are delighted to have attracted such a distinguished and internationally renowned researcher for the first URIS fellowship.

URIS is again calling for applications for two URIS fellowships, one for the 2017 autumn semester and one for the 2018 spring semester, at the University of Basel (Switzerland). The internationally oriented fellowship programme is open to postdoctoral and senior scholars in the humanities, cultural studies and social sciences whose research has the potential to make a substantial contribution to a better understanding of the history, society, politics and culture of Ukraine.

Please refer to our website for the detailed call for applications. The deadline is 18 November 2016. We would be grateful if you could forward the call for applications to interested individuals.
Our revised website has recently gone live. Key information on the objectives of URIS is now also available in German, French, Ukrainian and Russian in addition to English, reflecting the breadth and the networking aspect of URIS.
A warm word of thanks to our translators!

We would also like to draw your attention to the database with ongoing and completed Ukraine research projects at Swiss universities, as well as to the platform with links to interesting Ukraine-related journals, library catalogues, associations, etc.
Additions and new suggestions are always welcome.
