  • Princeton University has patented the invention and successfully licensed it.
  • Many members of the New Jersey tech community including Gerard Adams, Medina, Donald Sebastian, Mark Scotland and Ron Gold presented at TEDxNJIT this week.

  • Gold told his story about how personally needing home healthcare drove him to create the startup LeanOnWe, an online system that makes home healthcare more affordable.
  • At a meeting of Million Women Mentors-NJ, speakers addressed the lack of women in many STEM fields and what could be done to increase their presence.
  • Particularly troublesome is the tendency for women to drop out of their STEM careers after several years.

  • One speaker proposed that a strong community at work could help keep women happier in their STEM jobs.
  • In higher education, having women on search committees leads to a likelihood of women being hired for STEM teaching positions.
  • Monica C. Smith of Marketsmith said that her company recruits women re-entering the workforce and retrains them to bring them up to speed on the newest technologies.
  • In company news, Gordon Coburn, president of Cognizant (Teaneck), resigned.
  • The company reported that it was investigating possible violations of the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
