TRANSPORTATION FOR VETERANS

As a Greene County Veteran, a spouse or caregiver of a veteran, you may need transportation to doctor’s appointments, the local grocery store, or to visit family and friends. Greene CATS Public Transit can help make those trips possible. Scheduled Rides pick up and drop off riders at any location within Greene County with limited service to Montgomery County. The service operates seven days a week from 6:00am-9:00pm. To schedule a ride, you must call the Scheduling Office a minimum of two business days in advance, up to one month in advance, at 937-708-8322 or toll free at 1-877-227-2287 and choose option 1. We also provide Flex Routes which have defined routes with scheduled time points that circulate and link Greene County communities of Beavercreek, Fairborn, Xenia, and Yellow Springs. We connect to Montgomery County's Public Transit system, Greater Dayton RTA with a flex express route that connects Xenia to Downtown Dayton as well as at Wright State University. Flex Routes operate Monday through Friday 6:00am-6:00pm. Additionally, deviations on Flex Routes are available upon request a minimum two business days in advance and up to one month in advance. All of the services are open to the general public. All buses feature bike racks mounted on the front of the bus for carrying bicycles. All vehicles meet ADA accessibility guidelines.

Spotlight: Greene County Veterans Services Transportation Program

Greene County Veterans Services has had Veterans Serving Veterans since 1886. They have been transporting veterans for over 35 years. According their website, their Transportation Coordinator has made approximately 816 trips since the beginning of 2016. Currently, every Monday through Friday, transportation is provided to qualified veterans to and from their scheduled appointments at the Dayton V.A. Medical Center. Appointments are to be made between 8:00 a.m. and no later than 2:30 p.m. to minimize waiting time for the return trips. To schedule transportation 48 hours in advance you may call the transportation phone at:  937-562-6026. When calling you will need to have available the following information: full name, complete address, daytime contact number, last four digits of Social Security number, and your appointment date, time, and name of clinic. In addition, a caregiver, for the purpose of providing aid and attendance to the veteran, will be permitted to ride in the van with the veteran. Notice must be given at the time of reservation if a caregiver will be accompanying the veteran.

A NOTE FROM

Ken Collier, Executive Director

Greene CATS has been proudly serving veterans for the past fifteen years. We provide scheduled rides to and from veteran’s homes to locations throughout Greene County with limited service to Montgomery County. In an effort to make those who have served our country in the military more aware of the transportation options available to them, we recently began participating in several veteran information fairs. In the spring of 2016, we participated in the inaugural Veterans Moving Forward event held at Wright State University; offering free rides to the event on our Orange Line Flex route, which pulls in and out of WSU eight times a day Monday through Friday.  This service connects with the Blue Line Circulator (Fairborn) and Yellow Line Connector (Fairborn/Yellow Springs/ Xenia) and Greater Dayton RTA’s Route 1, allowing veterans along with the public to travel to and from the suburban communities of Greene County and throughout Montgomery County. Coming up on November 14th, we will have a booth at the Greene County Veterans’ Services Veteran Summit.  This organization provides rides to the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Dayton for qualified veterans Monday through Friday. Vet Link, a new feature of the 2-1-1 information and referral service being provided by the United Way, will be available in the near future for veterans to help them obtain community resources including transportation.  Look for launch dates in coming issues. Greene CATS salutes our Miami Valley Veterans for their service to our country.

Until our paths cross again,
Ken Collier, Executive Director
