Estimada Comunidad Escolar:

Los tiempos cambian y la educación y los métodos de aprendizaje también. Por ello, en los colegios SEK creemos en que esa evolución es posible gracias a un proyecto educativo propio, a un equipo de profesores en formación continua y a las familias implicadas e integradas en la educación de sus hijos.

Todo el Colegio en su conjunto es un espacio de aprendizaje: desde el comedor a la hora de afianzar hábitos saludables hasta el proyecto Lego, en la biblioteca, para introducir el mundo de la programación.

La educación no es solo la adquisición de conocimientos y conceptos, sino saber cómo emplearlos a lo largo de la vida. Les invitamos a acompañar esos momentos de crecimiento de sus hijos, en este final de curso que tantas fechas señaladas nos trae. Nosotros, su colegio, estaremos respaldándoles siempre en su camino.

Proud to be Guatemalan

As part of our Independence Day activities, the school´s fourth grade students transformed the classroom into one of Guatemala`s greatest touristic attractions; Amatitlán.The "Teleférico" or commonly known as a "cable car", is located in this beautiful lake front town, which without a doubt became the major attraction of the day here at SEK. During the elaboration of our decoration we investigated a little about the "Teleférico". We found out that it was first opened in 1978 and closed in 1998, due to the lack of safety issues. It was reopened in 2006 and closed back down on 2011, eventhough the children new they wouldn´t get the opportunity to ride it, that didn´t keep them from letting their imagination run wild and visualize what it would be like to ride the "Teleferico" over Amatitlán Lake, therefore inspiring our fourth graders to create their own "teleférico" for the class' independence project.

Asamblea de Cuarto para Quinto Bachillerato

El jueves 23 de agosto, nuestro colegio se llenó de nostalgia y a su vez de esperanza, los sentimientos florecieron y las muestras de cariño no dejaron de brotar. Todo el colegio se reunió para participar en la asamblea de 4to para 5to bachillerato y entrega de insignias. Terminar una etapa y emprender nuevos caminos implica una despedida para los alumnos graduandos, el momento de partir ha llegado y nuestro colegio se siente orgulloso por el trabajo que se ha realizado. A partir de ahora, forman parte del Club de Antiguos Alumnos del colegio, que estará siempre orgulloso de tenerles entre sus miembros.

En esta asamblea no solo se despide a la XI promoción del colegio Internacional SEK Guatemala, también se le da la bienvenida a la XII promoción, para lo cual los alumnos de 5to. bachillerato les entregan a los de 4to. la insignia correspondiente del colegio, que los acredita como la próxima promoción de estudiantes.

A ambas promociones les deseamos un éxito rotundo y sobre todo esperamos que siempre luchen por sus sueños y mantengan paso firme para el logro de sus metas y objetivos de vida.

Cuida tu Salud

Tener una buena higiene personal depende de uno mismo, la autoestima juega un papel fundamental frente a este aspecto, quien se quiere y se valora se esfuerza por verse bien. A continuación hablaremos de algunos hábitos de higiene personal y su importancia.

La ducha: con este hábito diario se controla la transpiración o el sudor, de igual forma la presencia de gérmenes y bacterias que pueden afectar la salud de nuestra piel. El lavado de manos constantemente es la mejor barrera para evitar muchas enfermedades. La limpieza y corte de uñas de manos y pies, evita la presencia de bacterias. La higiene bucal también es importante ya que al cepillar los dientes después de cada comida evitaremos muchas enfermedades y el uso de seda dental, es una medida de prevención importante para la salud.

Recuerda siempre poner en práctica estos hábitos y así cuidarás de tu salud de una mejor forma.

The Search has Begun

Before the thespians can perform anything for The Thespian Festival and Competition, they have to look for items. These items range from monologues, one act plays, duet acts, pantomimes, group act, and much more. The Thespians and Thespian advisors search day and night to find perfect scenes and acts to win the top award of Superior at The Thespian Festival and Competition.

During their search, Yamilla Francese and Clarissa Riquezes found a duet called “Double Mandible”, this duet tells about two twin sisters that are both in water ballet. One of the twins loves water ballet to death and all of her happiness comes from that sport. The other twin could care less about water ballet and only does the sport to please her sister. In addition, they found a one act play entitled, “Posi-Chip Poker.” In this one act play, three high schoolers are stuck in school suspension and they only way out is to play poker!

But the Thespians don’t forget to have fun! They practice their skills in different
Theater and concentration games. One game is called “The Clapping Circle.” The game starts off with all of the players interlocking their hands in one, big circle. The object of the game is to clap on the ground in a consecutive order. This may sound easy, but it gets difficult when the rounds start changing directions! The band students also tried out this game, and had fun playing it too!

Overall, the Drama Academy had another eventful week. While focused, searching for their acts, they remember to enjoy the class.
