Bus Rider and Crosswalk Safety

Arrival to School:

  • Students exit bus and walk on the fenced pathway to the crosswalk.

  • Students wait at the crosswalk until Crossing Guard and/or teacher give them the signal to safely walk across the street.

  • If the bus arrives so early that there is not a Crossing Guard or teacher on duty then students should wait, look both ways, motion to any cars to stop and then cross as a group across the crosswalk.

  • Kinder students will then walk to the kinder area.

  • 1-5 grade students will join the morning walk on the blacktop.

  • 6-8 grade students will walk to the R quad.

  • Students will stay on paved pathways and not cross through the grass areas.

Dismissal from School:

  • Students walk from class to the crosswalk in front of the school office.  Students walk around the flagpole side of the office.

  • Students use the paved pathways and do not cut across the grass areas.

  • Students wait at the crosswalk until the Crossing Guard and/or teacher gives them the signal to safely walk across the street to the fenced pathway leading to the buses.

  • Students walk along the pathway and then throw away any food, drinks or trash in the trash can located at the end of the fenced pathway.

  • Students safely board the bus with their bus pass visible.
ELECTRONICS
As a reminder, students who choose to bring electronics to school, they are to be turned off and in backpacks during the school day (including lunch) and at school activities.  The school is not responsible for the loss or theft of these items.
Safety of our students and staff is the District’s highest priority. With that in mind, Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District (DCJESD) is now requiring fingerprinting through the Department of Justice (DOJ) for all adult chaperones planning on attending any off campus field trip(s).  This new practice is an extension of the District’s policy that formerly only required fingerprint clearance for chaperones attending overnight field trips.
Important points to know if you’re considering volunteering for a field trip:
  • When getting fingerprints done you must bring the District Livescan form with you (which you will receive from the school/district).
  • Clearance may take as little as 2 days, or longer than a month.  It is recommended that you get your fingerprints completed at least 30 days prior to the planned field trip.
  • You only have to be fingerprinted once with DCJESD.  Once the District receives your fingerprint clearance, your file will remain open until you request to have it closed.  Your prints will carry over from year to year.
  • All fees paid go directly to DOJ ($32) and the rolling agency ($17).  The District does not receive any portion of the fees collected.
  • If financial assistance is needed to cover the cost of fingerprinting, please schedule a meeting with the school principal, so they can assist you in obtaining your fingerprint clearance.  We do not want the cost of fingerprinting to be a barrier for you to participate in your child’s education.
Thank you for your continued support in keeping our students safe.  If you have any questions please feel free to call the school office or the District’s Human Resources Department at 770-8800, we are happy to assist and answer any questions you may have.

Sincerely,

Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District

SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL

The School Site Council is an advisory board composed of 12 members - 4 Parents, 4 Teachers, 1 Classified Employee, 2 Students and 1 Administrator.  The School Site Council meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 2:45 - 3:45 in the office conference room.  Serving on the School Site Council is an excellent opportunity to be involved in the School Plan including making budget decisions which benefit all students at Creekview Ranch School.  A HUGE Raptor thank you to all the parents who showed an interest in serving on this committee.

Congratulations and thank you in advance to the following parents who are a part of our School Site Council Aida Fuchs, Carlene Carlson, Michele Burnett and Dimple Dullabh.  Your time and input is valuable and appreciated.

Messages and Deliveries

To minimize classroom interruptions and protect instructional time, the office staff is not able to deliver personal messages or items (i.e., lunch money, books, planners, PE Clothing, etc.) during the school day.  The office will only deliver messages in the case of an actual emergency.

Miscellaneous items brought to the office for students will be placed in the “Student Pick Up” area.  If your child thinks a delivery may be made they are encouraged to check with the office.

Lunches brought in for students will be placed on the “Lunch Cart” and brought out to the lunch area during your child’s lunch time.

STAND TALL, MOLLY LOU MELON, By Patty Lovell

Be yourself like Molly Lou Melon no matter what a bully may do.

Molly Lou Melon is short and clumsy, has buck teeth, and has a voice that sounds like a bullfrog being squeezed by a boa constrictor. She doesn't mind. Her grandmother has always told her to walk proud, smile big, and sing loud, and she takes that advice to heart.

But then Molly Lou has to start in a new school. A horrible bully picks on her on the very first day, but Molly Lou Melon knows just what to do about that.

Backpack Safety

Improper use of backpacks can cause back pain, shoulder pain, and posture problems.  It is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics that a backpack weigh no more than 15% of a child's weight.  Some suggestions for a proper fitting backpack are:
  • Wear the backpack using both shoulder straps.
  • Tighten the shoulder straps so that the backpack is work close to the body.
  • Place the heaviest items in the bottom of the backpack.
  • Help your child determine what needs to be in the backpack, there are often extra items that increase the weight.
If the backpack weight can not be limited, or if your student is experiencing back pain, shoulder pain, or posture problems, a rolling backpack may be helpful.
Substitute LVN/RN Opportunity
The Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District is looking for caring FN/LVN's that would like to be placed on our substitute Health Staff List.  There are times throughout the year, when we have a need for a substitute RN/LVN (with current licensing) to help cover health needs when one of our staff members are out unexpectedly.  We have students with a range of needs (Diabetic, Diastat, GTube, etc.) who need assistance during school hours.  Training would be provided.  Please contact Sandie Faulk at 916-770-8855 if you are interested in learning more about becoming a substitute RN/LVN in our Health Department.
Please Help Us Be Courteous and Safe Neighbors

If your child is arriving and departing from school using private transportation, we would great appreciate your assistance in easing congestion, ensuring safety, and maximizing efficiency:
  • Carpool with others in your circle of friends, family, or neighbors.  Carpooling is not only great for the environment but also easier on your gasoline budget.
  • Follow all posted speed limit and traffic signs.
  • Be considerate of the neighborhood.  Stay clear of private driveways, roads, and property (e.g. Vineyard, Cook Riolo and PFE Road are public, while Almond Blossom Lane and  Glen Lane are private roads)
  • Use designated loading/unloading zones and parking lots.  Pull forward as space becomes available in the loading/unloading zones.  Students are encouraged to wait for their ride closer to the stop sign.
  • Do not use the District Support Services (DDS) parking lot for drop off or pick up.  That lot is not designed to be used for this purpose.
