NAF RECEIVES $1.75M CDFI AWARD
Nonprofits Assistance Fund is pleased to announce an award of $1.75 million from the U.S. Department of Treasury's Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) Fund. The CDFI Fund awarded 196 CDFIs $185.7 million in grants and loans on September 27. The awards will enable CDFIs and Native CDFIs to increase lending and investment activity in low-income and economically distressed communities across the nation.
“We are thrilled to receive this grant," said Kate Barr, NAF Executive Director. "These funds enhance our ability to provide loans to nonprofits that enable them to adapt and serve our community.”

LAURA JEFFREY ACADEMY
Laura Jeffrey Academy (LJA), a Twin Cities’ charter school, provides a girl-focused educational opportunity for grades 5 through 8. As a public school it welcomes all students, but focuses on girls when they are going into their ‘tween years because of the messages girls hear in society such as they are not as good in science, math and engineering. LJA sees one of its goals being to help scholars develop their sense of self as they learn about being citizens in the community around them.
NAF is honored to partner with Laura Jeffrey Academy in this important work. More on our partnership here.

LOAN SPOTLIGHT
One Roof Community Housing
One Roof Community Housing is committed to providing housing services, and building and sustaining affordable homes and healthy neighborhoods in Duluth and the surrounding communities. Its mission is to make home ownership possible for low-income families through purchase, renovation, and maintenance that will allow a family to keep a home as long as they like. One Roof offers a range of services including affordable homeownership opportunities, home-ownership counseling, home and rental rehab lending and down-payment assistance, resources and support for positive tenant landlord relations, and a tool-lending library.
Formed by the merger of Northern Communities Land Trust and Neighborhood Housing Services in 2012, One Roof maintains ownership of the land and sells the building to low-income families at a more affordable price. Over the past 12 months One Roof has helped 58 clients purchase a home and 81 families with home rehab loans.
NAF is proud to partner with One Roof on a working capital loan for Common Ground, a licensed general contractor and wholly owned subsidiary of One Roof. Common Ground is One Roof’s social enterprise that brings the same commitment to mission and values to its private customers that it does to its work with One Roof.
