The City is pleased to announce the return of the Tree Voucher Program. In 2008, this reimbursement program fell victim to changes in our economy. But, during budget discussions this year, the City Council decided that a new and more stream-lined program, the Residential Tree Planting Program, be established and available funding was committed at that time. 
This new program, for residential property owners only, is easy for the property owner to participate in - and for the City to administer.
This is how the new program works:
  • Applicants must reside within the City of Eagle corporate limits.
  • Available to residential property owners only (A separate program is available for publicly owned property).
  • Limit 1 (one) tree per household.
  • Applicant must submit proof of purchase (receipt) and a picture of the planted tree.
  • Reimbursement request forms must be submitted within 15 days of tree purchase and tree planting with the required attachments.
  • Request for reimbursement must be received by the City no later than 5:00 pm (MST), September 15, 2017.
  • Tree must be selected from the City of Eagle Qualified Tree List (listed on the back of the reimbursement form).
  • Maximum $100 reimbursement.

Volunteer of the Month - Josh Dowd
The City of Eagle recognizes the importance of volunteerism and is taking a moment to thank those who selflessly give of themselves to the community.

Josh Dowd, the City of Eagle’s September Volunteer of the Month was nominated by the Eagle Public Library’s Youth Program Leader. Josh began volunteering in October 2014 and has shown his dedication to ensuring the success of the teen program at the Library.  He continues to provide ideas for events and input on the Teen Advisory Board.  Josh has shone by becoming the Teen Advisory Board member who takes the lead in creating questions for teen trivia games, and his enthusiasm for trivia matched. Eagle offers a warm thank you for all you have done for the City of Eagle and the Eagle Public Library.
The City of Eagle honors Purple Heart veterans with parking space on
October 11, 2016 at 5pm

The City of Eagle, a proclaimed Purple Heart City, is continuing a nationwide tradition by honoring those who served our country by offering a dedicated parking space for wounded veterans visiting City Hall. The parking space is marked with a sign and painted purple with yellow borders. The location will make it one of the closest parking spaces to the front door.
 
There are an estimated 1.8 million Purple Heart recipients in the United States. These combat wounded service members have transitioned back into civilian life and have made great sacrifices to ensure our freedoms. However, they often go unrecognized.
 
As a disabled Army Veteran myself, I can relate to what it takes and what we are asked to do while serving. But these wounded warriors took the bullets, and I hold an incredibly high respect for the men and women that served our nation. There are absolutely NO people that have sacrificed more for America than our veterans that suffered injuries in combat while fighting for our freedom. They spilled blood for our country.
 
So now, the City of Eagle is joining Americans across our country by honoring our wounded veterans in an awesome way. We are arming ourselves with purple paint, rollers and brushes to designate a parking space for the men and women who were injured in combat.
 
Mayor Ridgeway is humbled and honored to be involved in this project. “It’s a great way to give back to the men and women who have sacrificed so much for our freedom and for the safety of our country.”
 
Please come and join the city of Eagle and members of the Military Order of the Purple Heart as they honor wounded warriors by dedicating a parking space to them on October 11, 2016 at 5:00 P.M.
Mountain West Bank Day of Caring volunteers for the City of Eagle 

When 120 man hours happens in only 3 hours time, things happen too fast to appreciate the outcome. Eagle is a better place than it was yesterday because of this great event. Repairs needed to the unpaved trails here have been neglected for so long but will now survive this winter and many winters to come. Residents are already noticing the repainted mile markers and find them helpful in gauging their morning walks. The entrance to the river trail was cleaned up for folks who before would stay away. The Mountain West Bank Day of Caring was a great experience with great results.
 
To the volunteers - we thank you all for making a difference in our community.

The Library has several new services.  First, if your printer is broken or not in service, you’re now able to send files to the Library to be printed.  Start at the eaglepubliclibrary.org and click on the purple and green image that reads “Mobile Printing Available.”  Select the printer to be used, enter your email, and upload the file – it’s that easy.  Then, stop by the Library’s print release station and release the files – they’ll print right away.
Another type of printing is also now available – 3D!  The Library has three 3D printers.  If you want to learn to create 3D objects, there are classes available.  Check the Library’s website.  If you want 3D files printed, you’re able to upload files through the Library’s website.  Start at eaglepubliclibrary.org and click on the “Submit 3D Print” button.  Complete the form and submit it.  Your design will be printed.
On October 4, you’ll have access to Lynda.com through the Library’s website. Lynda.com includes online tutorials, articles, and books in a wide variety of subjects including technology, software, business, music and video production, and more.  Start at eaglepubliclibrary.org and click on the “Research” button, then click on Lynda.com.  Log in with your Eagle Public Library card number.
And, finally, through the Library’s website, you now have access to Brain HQ.  Stimulate your brain, keep it nimble and young, and ward of dementia by doing the short exercises.  Brain HQ has received rave reviews, including one from the Today Show  (http://on.today.com/2alwZeg).   Start at eaglepubliclibrary.org and click on the “Research” button.  Log in with your Eagle Public Library card number.
There are many programs at the Library throughout October. 
  • Eagle’s Second-Thursday Book Club will discuss Tatiana de Rosnay’s Sarah’s Key at 6:30 pm on October 13.
  • To celebrate Teen Read Week, the Library is hosting three programs: Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and A Monster Calls : the dystopian game show on Tuesday, October 11, at 6:00 pm, it’s two books that are soon to be movies which will be mashed up into the wackiest game show ever; Resdesign a Book Jacket, on Wednesday, October 12 at 6:00 pm in which you’ll get to redesign your favorite book’s jacket; and 3D Printing, on Thursday, October 13, at 6:00 pm, during which teens will be able to design a 3D object and submit it for printing.
  • The Friends of the Eagle Public Library will hold their Fall Used Book Sale on Friday, October 21, from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm, and again on Saturday, October 22, from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm.
  • If you’re elementary school age, don’t miss the Saturday program No- Carve Pumpkins!, on October 22 at 2:00 pm.   You’ll get to decorate a pumpkin any way you like!

OCTOBER featured Artist
THE GALLERY at City Hall - DAN MOTTAZ
My first artistic work was painting landscapes in the late 1970s. Then I purchased my first camera to assist me in painting remote locations where the painting materials could not go. I would photograph the scene, print the image and paint the picture from the photo. It didn't take long before I got hooked into photography. I soon put painting aside.
Most of my photography concentrated on black and white of varied subjects. I built a darkroom and processed my own prints.
As things go when you are younger, I slowly turned my image making attention to the world of motion pictures. With a college degree in film production, the still camera was put away, making way for a 30 year career in film and video.
A few years before retirement, around 2008, I reintroduced myself to the still camera. This time, instead of film, the medium was digital. Other than the fundamentals of composition, I had to learn an entire new system of making images. It didn't take long before I became nearly obsessed with the world of digital photography, learning all I could from books, extended education classes, workshops and just plain doing it.
I moved to Eagle in 2012 and became an active member in the Camera Club of Eagle as well as the Boise Camera Club where I served as President in 2014.
THE GALLERY at ST LUKE'S - Carol Spoor
I was part of a family with varied creative talents, but became interested in testing my creative ability late in life.  While I was a full-time working mom, I took part in classes in oil painting and pastel portraits.  I also dabbled in pencil portraits and colored pencil drawings.
After I retired from working outside my home, I became more active in watercolor painting and became a member of Idaho Watercolor Society.  I have studied with groups headed by Joyce Green during the last three years and enjoy working with other watercolor groups.  I like working with watercolor because of the flexibility it allows in its application.  Patience was never one of my virtues, so the drying speed of watercolor fits my personality. 
I paint from things within my own experience.  I paint from photos I’ve taken and saved over my lifetime waiting until I had the ability to turn them into a painting.  I hope to continue learning and developing my skill in watercolor painting.
