Motivational Interview Training

Motivational Interviewing (MI) has been applied to a wide range of problem behaviors related to alcohol and substance abuse as well as health promotion, medical treatment adherence, and mental health issues. Although many variations in technique exist, this MI training will provide parents a snapshot of the practice.

Massachusetts Prescription Monitoring Program

The Massachusetts Prescription Awareness Tool, also known as MassPAT, is now live.

"The MA PMP collects dispensing information on Massachusetts Schedule II through V controlled substances dispensed pursuant to a prescription. The Drug Control Program (DCP) analyzes the PMP data to determine prescribing and dispensing trends; provide patient prescription history information to prescribers and dispensers; provide educational information to health care providers and the public; and to provide case information to regulatory and law enforcement agencies concerning drug distribution and diversion."

The state's updated prescription monitoring program includes:
  • Efforts to make the system more user-friendly and efficient 
  • Easier access to patient data
  • Improvements to the registration process

Job Posting: Recovery Community Specialist

The Bureau of Substance Abuse Services (BSAS), Office of Youth and Young Adult Services (OYYAS), is hiring a Recovery Community Specialist! Job responsibilities include:
  • Supporting part of the SAMHSA funded SYT-I Grant and the continued development of policies, infrastructure, and process to increase meaningful input from youth, young adults, and their families toward the BSAS and OYYAS policies and programming
  • Working with members of BSAS, OYYAS, and other internal and external stakeholders to assist with the development of a recovery coaching curriculum and infrastructure.

Trauma-Informed Practices & Family Drug Court Training

On Friday, September 23, the Opioid Task Force partnered with the Center for Professional & Community Education at Clinical and Support Options, the Foundation for Community Justice, and the Franklin Family Drug court to host a free training about trauma-informed practices and the Franklin Family Drug Court. 

Approximately 50 attorneys and court staff participated in the 3-hour training facilitated by Licensed Psychologist at Clinical & Support Options (CSO), Dr. Miriam Defant. Dr. Defant presented on topics including:
  • The definitions and prevalence of trauma and Adverse Childhood Events (ACEs)
  • The effects of trauma on development, functioning and addiction
  • Trauma-Informed Care strategies as applied to court processes and supports
  • Self-care and vicarious traumatization for court personnel and legal professionals

Recovery Coach Academy Training

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) Bureau of Substance Abuse Services (BSAS) is hosting a five-day Recovery Coach Academy Training in Marlborough, Massachusetts. The Recovery Coach Academy (RCA) training is designed for those interested in becoming Recovery Coaches and/or for learning the principles and philosophies of Recovery Coaching. The training will provide a comprehensive overview of the purpose, tasks, and roles of Recovery Coaches.

Youth Services in Brattleboro, Vermont is hiring a Director of Substance Abuse Treatment. This position will involve direct work with clients, including in-office clinical hours as well as time in the community with clients and agency staff. Desired qualifications include:
  • Knowledge of addiction and recovery, and trauma/complex trauma and their effects on adolescent development
  • Knowledge and experience with strength-based practices, youth development, and harm reduction frameworks
