Buzz on Broadway: 5 Hands-on craft activities this Saturday, October 1st

Create! Participate! Share! Part of Culture Days Saskatchewan

Three Broadway locations + five different craft activities = lots of fun for the whole family

Artist led activities run from 10am to 5pm at the Saskatchewan Craft Council, Handmade House, and Clay Studio Three Pottery in Saskatoon.

1) Saskatchewan Craft Council Gallery, 813 Broadway Ave (between 10 St E and Main St):
  • 10am to 1pm: Collaborative Printmaking
    • Press lino cut stamps of bees onto mulberry paper printed with beehive “hexagons”. “Cap” the individual “beehive cells” with other stamps
    • Led by Saskatchewan Craft Council and Saskatchewan Printmakers Association artist Monique Martin
  • 1:30pm to 4:30pm: Glass Mosaics
    • Press colourful glass into a soft matrix to create your very own mosaic
    • Led by Saskatchewan Craft Council and Saskatoon Glassworkers Guild artist Joan Hiebert
  • October 1st is the last day of the Saskatoon Glassworkers Guild exhibition Colour Outside the Lines. Parents can enjoy this sparkling exhibition while your kids are being creative (or you can join in on the fun!)
2) Handmade House, 710 Broadway Ave (between 11 St E and 10 St E) under the outdoor canopies
  • 10am to 5pm: Painting with Wool – Needle Felting
    • Use wool roving to needle felt onto a pre-felted “canvas”. Needle felt your own bee inside a cookie cutter form and create flowers for the bees to buzz around
    • Led by Saskatchewan Craft Council and Handmade House artist Heike Fink
  • 10am to 5pm: Copper Jewellery Making
    • Create your own earrings, rings or pendants out of copper wire using traditional jewellery making tools: hammers, anvils, pliers and files
    • Led by Saskatchewan Craft Council and Handmade House artist Winston Quan
3) Clay Studio Three Pottery, 3-527 Main Street (just off Broadway and Main St, next to One Yoga)
  • 10am to 5pm: Air Dry Clay Creations
    • Create punch pots or small, hand built trays; use a large array of texturing tools to decorate them; then take them home with you! No kiln needed
    • Led by Clay Studio Three Pottery artists
Did you know nearly one million tonnes of honey is produced worldwide every year? Pick up Bee Trivia Sheets at each location during Buzz on Broadway this Saturday.
