Rob Woodall Luncheon
Some of our members were able to join Congressman Rob Woodall for a fundraising lunch hosted at Vulcan Materials on Friday, September 17 to discuss politics, transportation and issues, including truck weights and the use of cross laminated timber in buildings.
Everyone enjoyed good BBQ and conversation about topics that will affect our members in the coming year.

GDOT Board Dinner
The Georgia Ready Mixed Concrete Association, along with the Georgia Construction Aggregate Association, hosted dinner for the State Transportation Board this month. The GDOT Board meets monthly.
The dinner was an opportunity for members of both organizations to network and strengthen relationships with our state's transportation leadership. Good times for all.

Build With Strength is a new coalition of the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association. The BWS program exists to promote concrete as the construction material of choice, particularly against wood.
The BWS program has been active nationally and locally. They provided many resources on a local code ordinance in Sandy Springs that restricts the use of wood on projects over 3 stories and 100,000 square feet.
I would encourage all members to visit the BWS website. There is a lot of information concrete construction that is available to leverage in your local markets. In addition, BWS has a design assistance program similar to the one for the paving market.

Ernst & Vulcan Drivers Represent Georgia in National Championships
GRMCA Mixer Driver Champion Tom McGaha and runner-up James Hatcher competed in the NRMCA Mixer Driver Championships in Nashville, Tennessee at the NRMCA ConcreteWorks. While neither placed in the event, we were very proud of what they accomplished and how they represented our state. Both drivers and their families were present for the competition on Sunday, September 18th and the awards dinner the next evening at the Wildhorse Saloon in downtown Nashville.
Tom McGaha drives for Ernst and James Hatcher drives for Vulcan Materials.

CDL Update
One of the critical issues that the concrete industry is currently facing is labor. Specifically, a shortage of CDL certified ready mix truck drivers.
We are forging partnerships and making points of contact with all DDS Licensed CDL training schools in the state as an effort to bridge the gap between employers and potential employees. We are also working with CEFGA and Westside Works on their CDL Ready Program to train drivers.
We have recently created a hub on the website that contains resources related to CDL training. We will continue to update this page as we work on this issue. Check it out here: www.gaconcrete.org/CDL
