Water-Energy Nexus Registry Gets the Greenlight from Governor Brown!

Signed last Saturday, SB 1425 directs the California Environmental Protection Agency to establish a voluntary emissions registry to quantify GHGs in California’s water system, with a view to identifying reduction opportunities. This new registry will allow water agencies, large water consumers, businesses and others to voluntarily track, measure, and baseline their GHG emissions resulting from the water-energy nexus.

We partnered with the bill's co-sponsor, the Union of Concerned Scientists on a blog post which can be read here. Click for more information on our work on the Water-Energy GHG Guidance and Water-Energy Nexus.

NEER-ing the Horizon

The National Energy Efficiency Registry (NEER) will be a transparent tracking system for energy efficiency. On September 15th, the Project Team hosted the first joint meeting of the Steering/Advisory Committee and Multi-stakeholder Working Group. About 50 members attended in-person in Providence, RI and 33 via webinar to review progress to-date. Discussions included updates on the draft NEER Principles and Operating Rules, user scenarios, a governance proposal, and research regarding existing registries.
Left: the NASEO crew and our executive director, David Rosenheim, were able to take a tour of Block Island Windfarm, the first offshore wind project in the U.S. Each turbine stands 600ft above the surface and generates 6 MW of electricity!
