Our National Jamboree is taking shape

All our volunteers are working eagerly with everything from programme to the preparation of the campsite that will be used for Nord 2017. Now is the time to spread the word about this Norwegian National Jamboree to all the Guides and Scouts you know!

If you have already decided to come, you should start your preparations so that you are ready to register in January. Everybody who registers at that time will be able to secure a place at the camp, but if you have not yet been in touch with us, please do so as soon as possible, so that we may be able to help you with any practical inquiries.

In this newsletter we will bring up more details that are useful to know for your preparations. All the details are also available at www.nord2017.com.

Travel Information

The journey to a camp is part of the camp experience, and the journey to Bodø is a unique opportunity to see Norway together with your Guide and/or Scout Group. We therefore urge you to choose different means of transportation each way, so that you are able to see Norway in several ways.

There will be good prices for both flights, trains and buses organised through the camp registration. Another option is driving one’s own car or renting a car.

Flights: Most tickets on the flights of the arrival and departure days will be reserved by the camp, and we will also set up charter flights when necessary. The price will be the same for everybody travelling from the same region, and it will be possible to fly in from all parts of Norway. An example price is 1500 NOK one way from Oslo to Bodø. Please refer to our web page for more details. The flight time from Oslo to Bodø is 1 hour and 25 minutes.

Train: The camp has reserved all train tickets to Bodø on the arrival and departure days. Prices will depend on where you take the train from. For example, the price for Oslo-Bodø will be 1200 NOK one way for adults and 600 NOK one way for children (up to 16 years). The travelling time from Oslo to Bodø by train is 18 hours.

Coach: The camp will make an agreement with a bus company for bus transportation. A preliminary estimate of the price is 1000 NOK per person one way from Oslo. This includes basic accommodation on the way, e.g. in a classroom or gymnastics hall.

Please contact us if you have questions concerning travel planning and read more at www.nord2017.com.

Programme

Everybody on the camp – both Scouts, Guides, Rovers, Rangers and Leaders – can look forward to an exciting programme. For Guides and Scouts, the programme will be organised in patrols. In the registration in January next year, the patrols will make wishes for which activities they want, and which type of overnight hike they would prefer.

This, the Programme Department have planned for a midnight session, cultural activities in the Camp Plaza, a market day, a hike and lots of other exciting daytime activities. All of the hikes will be overnight hikes, and the patrols will be able to choose between four different levels of difficulty according to their own abilities.

The Programme Department is still interested in hearing about any fun or crazy ideas you might have, so do not hesitate to contact us if you have any!

Registration

This autumn, we recommend you to make all the necessary preparations for the registration, which will happen in January 2017. The leaders should start by getting an overview of who should participate and how the practicalities will be organised. The registration system will e.g. ask for personal information for all the participants, health information and choices regarding programme, hike route, travelling and food supplies.

All the necessary information from the jamboree will be in place no later than 1 November 2016, but do not hesitate to contact us at info@nord2017.com if there is anything that is missing in order for you to make good preparations for the camp.

ROVER CAMP

Join the Rover Camp of Nord 2017!

Are you a Rover or Ranger wondering if there will be any programme for you? The response from the Rover Department at the camp is of course that you should join the Rover Camp! The Rovers and Rangers will have their own campsite at the camp with a Rover Café. Here, you can buy food and drinks, and there will be entertainment. The Café will also be brilliant place for making new friends from abroad. Perhaps there will also be some hammocks to relax in? It has also been decided that the Rover Camp will have theme days related to the ‘Wild’ theme of the camp. We look forward to seeing you there!

The Rover Camp will of course also have its own programme activities, where both Rovers in the Rover Camp and Rovers who live with their groups can participate. Moreover, there will be a Rover Hike with different levels of difficulty. The participants in the Rover Camp will also contribute with a helping hand to the rest of the camp. There will be a few sessions with staff work, and in the registration you indicate which department(s) you want to work in. The food of the Rovers will be served in the staff mess hall.

FAQ

‘How do I become a staff member at Nord 2017, and what does it entail?’

Running a National Jamboree is not done by itself, but requires the effort and initiative of a number of dedicated volunteers. Their motivation is that it’s fun to make a camp, and that is why we would love to have you on our team! If this sounds interesting, you just have to use the contact form on our website or send an email to mail@nord2017.com.

If you go to ‘Staff/IST’, you can read about the different departments and determine what interests you the most. Do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions. We are looking for both those who have specialist knowledge and those who want to learn something new!

As a fulltime staff member during the Jamboree, you can stay in the Staff Camp, with the rest of your group in the Participant Camp or in the Rover Camp. Fulltime staff members get pre-cooked meals in the staff canteen. Staff members receive a discount on their camp fee and pay 1600 NOK. Participation in the construction camp before and/or after the Jamboree also gives additional discounts.
