Dear d.tech families,

This week’s message is operational in nature, as I want to highlight a few items for families.

Free and Reduced Lunch Forms: It’s not just about the lunch.  We still have many students who have yet to turn in their free and reduced lunch forms, and I worry that many people who qualify do not turn in the forms because they don’t want the lunch.  Please remember that students who qualify for free and reduced lunch also qualify for fee waivers for things such as college tests.  Schools also receive extra money from the state to help defray expenses for students as part of Governor Brown’s funding formula aimed at ensuring equity. I still firmly believe that we are strong as a country because where we start does not always determine where we end up. Public education is the best path for upward mobility. If your family qualifies, please fill out the form.

September 30: This Friday is a staff professional development day, so students will not attend school.  Skyline College classes at Rollins Road will not meet on that day.  Also, all student work must be submitted by 4pm on Friday September 30 to be included in the October progress report.  Please remember that a submission does not mean the student will receive credit for it. Work must be revised to reach proficiency.

Also in case you were glued to the TV last night here are the links from the meeting:  the Town Hall presentation  and the Budget Overview
Next week’s message will cover changes in store  after Intersession, specifically the start of lab days and student self-scheduling.

Have a great week,

Ken

Annual Fund Drive

Thank you!  Our Annual Fund is off to a great start.  Eleven percent of our parents have donated to the d tech Annual Fund.  We really want to reach our goal of 100% family participation and $300,000.

This week we are kicking off an @d tech classroom competition. The top three @d.tech advisory classes with the most number of families that pledge or donate to our Annual Fund will win a pizza party.  This competition will end on Friday, September 30.  We are asking for a $1200 donation per student, but we will gladly accept any amount that works for you.  Please show that you support d.tech and go online to donate or turn in your pledge form this week so your child’s advisory class can qualify to win the pizza party.  You can drop off the pledge form to the Front Office or have your child bring it to their @d.tech teacher.

The annual fund pays for the educational needs of our students for this year.   Please go to this link to pledge your support and/or start a payment plan via PayPal, your credit card or your checking account. The Annual Fund campaign runs until June 16 so you have plenty of time to make monthly payments.

Unified Calendar - Newly Added Year View

The calendar system on d.tech’s website has a new feature: a 12-month year view. You can now select the “Year” view or opt for other options: Day, Three-Day, Week, Month, and List view. The new view is useful for at-a-glance vacation planning (or other family activities) to check for conflicts with school activities or holidays. Thanks to Wayne Hom, our parent Tech Sherpa, for installing & updating the Unified Calendar.

“Intersession Drivers, Start Your Engines!”

October 3-14: Thank you to those who already volunteered to drive. We still need more drivers to transport students every day, one-way: from d.tech to Oracle in Redwood City. The commitment is 11:45am to 12:45pm on the days that fit your schedule.  We are particularly hopeful that drivers who have already completed their fingerprinting and TB requirements will join us. If you can drive one day, several days, or the entire two weeks, please complete this form to help us coordinate the driving assignments.

For student safety, drivers must complete documentation requirements before transporting students. We encourage new parent volunteers to get their Fingerprinting and TB clearance completed as soon as possible (associated fees are not covered by d.tech). These are a ONE-TIME verification and are good for the entire time your child(ren) are at d.tech.  Previous drivers with expired documents should submit current copies of auto insurance and CA driver’s license to the Front Office as soon as possible.

Email inquiries to intersessiondriver@dtechhs.org. Thank you.

Lowdown on the Download

Our growing parent community relies heavily on this newsletter for updates, news, and calendar reminders--managed entirely by volunteers. Due to finite volunteer resources and limitations of d.tech’s website, our newsletter remains lengthy but strives to be succinct. Every week, the volunteer staff reads & compiles submissions, iterates drafts, and vets stories from teachers, staff, volunteers, students, and community leaders. In addition, we’ve added Twitter and Facebook accounts which glean news from the Download. Your understanding of our time and resource constraints is appreciated. Send feedback to dtechparentcommunity@gmail.com. Send story submissions only to d.techdownload@gmail.com.

Parent Communications Volunteer Staff: Brent Shedd (2020), Kate Uva (2020), Kristine VanDusen (2019), Natasha LaVine (2018, Parent Communications Coordinator), Niño Floro (2019), Peggy Toye (2018)
