Jeffery Lowther and Anjie Gonzales spreading a message of love outside Foley Rodeo
 Dear ARC Friends,

There is just no denying our compassionate community is growing. And as we grow, we are able to do more to help the vulnerable beings whose only hope is us.

This past month, we were able to rescue another animal in need, this time a chicken named Tita. You can read her story below and contribute to her veterinary fund here.  We also sent a team over to Louisiana to help in the rescue efforts after the flooding, and a group of us got to go up to Full Circle Farm Sanctuary to visit all the rescued animals including Sylvia, Lotus and Tita, all individuals whom ARC helped rescue. We also peacefully protested the circus at The Grounds.

This past month, at the ARC Cafe, we had a delicious Greek feast, as well as a highly educational presentation by licensed dietitian Bridget Reiter, MS RDN, LD. Scroll below for a new regular column on plant-based nutrition which Bridget will be contributing every month to help us all become and stay as healthy as we can be.

We still have a petition going urging the Greater Gulf State Fair held at The Grounds to drop cruelty from its plans for the fair. This year the state fair is scheduled to include both an exotic animal act as well as a rodeo. While the abuse inherent in the exotic animal shows is hidden behind the scenes, it is no less real. Rodeo cruelty, on the other hand, is plain for everyone to see. You can find a link to the petition below. Unless the Grounds cancels these acts, ARC will be there to peacefully demonstrate. Please see details below.

Our next delicious vegan cafe happens Saturday, October 22nd. This month we're celebrating Oktoberfest with a German menu. Check the link below for details. All are always welcome. The cafe is donation based, always delicious, enlightening, and filled with the kind of humans that restore our faith in humanity.

The most important thing each of us can do to make this world a more compassionate place for all beings is to be aware of the impact our choices have on other beings, and whenever we can, to choose kindness over cruelty and compassion over indifference. Each one of us can be a hero for animals and a force of peace and compassion in this world.

With Great Love, and in Solidarity,
Tracey and the whole ARC team
Every Life Matters. And Everyone Loves Tita. Tita is a pullet hen who was born to become a backyard egg-layer. A genetic defect left her with a misaligned beak that made it impossible for her to feed herself adequately. The people who had bought her as part of their business didn't have the time or money required to care for her. They said she would starve to death if someone didn't intervene. So we did. We committed to paying her veterinary bills and got her to Full Circle Farm Sanctuary, where she is receiving a lot of extra TLC to make sure she can consume enough calories to thrive. She will be a special needs girl her whole life, but everyone who has met Tita, including the vets at UGA, are won over by her and attest to this girl's sweet nature. Tita has had a rough start but now she is one of the lucky ones. The 9 billion chickens we kill every year in this country alone for meat and eggs each has a unique personality like Tita does. Each has a desire to live, the ability to bond and form friendships, and the capacity to suffer. We can help beings like Tita three times a day by leaving animals and animal by-products off our plates.
Please visit our fundraising page to contribute to Tita's veterinary fund.
Carson & Bailey Circus- Peaceful Demo
When ARC members found out that Carson and Bailey Circus was coming to town in September, they rallied together and came out to educate circus goers about the hidden, but inherent cruelty of circuses. As always, it was a peaceful demonstration because as Gandhi so famously said "we must BE the change we wish to see in the world." Thanks to these brave and dedicated activists for speaking up for those who cannot speak for themselves.

The Greater Gulf State Fair comes to Mobile October 28 – November 6, 2016. The Fair will include numerous events which cause suffering for the animals used in these acts. Scheduled activities feature wild animals including lions, tigers, gators, bears, monkeys, and owls, as well as a rodeo and stampede scheduled to run on two days, Oct. 30th and 31st.

Please sign and share our petition which seeks to educate the Grounds and the public about the cruelty inherent in these events and asks the Grounds to choose more humane, compassionate forms of entertainment which do not abuse or exploit other living beings.

Sign the petition here.

In October, our featured presentation will be a talk given by an inspiring local woman who started an animal rights and rescue group in Vietnam. Plus Vanity Ladner will be giving us a crash course in German for vegans.

All are welcome. All by donation. We always need volunteers to help set up and clean up. If you're interested in helping, please contact us. All proceeds go to helping us in our mission of creating a more peaceful, more just, more compassionate, and more sustainable world for all beings.
