Some days I quickly move on to the next email; other days I find myself saving one to revisit later, but I printed Voltaire’s quote above to be reminded of the sentiment. Year one of the design and innovation curriculum at LJCDS, which launched in September 2015, was an exciting one, serving more than 25 percent of the student population. This year, we’re growing and hoping to make an impact on a larger percentage of our student body.
California Poet Laureate Dana Gioia visited LJCDS on Friday, September 23, to conduct a poetry writing workshop with a small group of Upper School students and to perform a poetry reading for all of Upper School, faculty, staff and parents.
On Tuesday, September 27, 14 eighth graders along with school counselors Ms. Ashley Marlow and Dr. LaNaadrian Easterling ’01, participated in the No Place for Hate conference, sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). This full day event engaged more than 100 San Diego students and 50 educators in discussions about creating a safe and welcoming school climate for everyone.
What would it look like to have people around the globe devote one day to talking about character? Let it Ripple, a filmmaking team, led the initiative of starting Character Day three years ago, and on September 22, students in Lower School joined in the celebration along with thousands of others around the globe.
