A smattering of September rain had kept some wildebeest on the North side of the river, but the irresistible pull of greener grass in the Mara triangle prompted 4000 or so to brave the crossing.

Rachel and Barry Chapman, maximising their transfer between Kicheche Valley and Bush Camp captured this remarkable sequence.

The big croc was so bloated with previous conquests that his attempt was half hearted at best and ended in failure

The lion’s huge belly also suggested he had been making the most of the buffet, but that wasn’t about to stop the king of the South bank. The end was mercifully swift for the unlucky wildebeest.
