Our September Ice Cream Social was Fantastic!

THANK YOU to everyone who attended our Inaugural September Ice Cream Social in Holmes Park! Over 130 Marcy-Holmes residents and guests spent time together on a sunny Saturday enjoying Izzy's Ice Cream, listening to music, and playing various games.

This event was made possible because of the generosity of Izzy's Ice Cream, Restaurant Alma, Brasa, Varsity Bike & Transit, Shuang Cheng, VIc's, Tugg's Tavern, Kafe 421, Burrito Loco, Pizza Nea, The Book House, Espresso Royale, Pagoda, Mesa Pizza, Vescio's, Loring Pasta Bar, Kramarcuk's, and over a dozen MHNA board members and dedicated neighborhood volunteers!

National Geographic Recognition for our History Tour

The Marcy-Holmes Neighborhood Association was recently recognized by National Geographic for helping promote the character and well-being of the Mississippi River as a destination. Our mobile History Tour: Hiding in Plain Sight, is featured on the Mississippi River Geotourism Program and locally at Minneapolis Historical.

New Book on Dinkytown's History

Longtime Marcy-Holmes resident and former MHNA President Bill
Huntzicker has published a new book on the history of Dinkytown. Bill's book chronicles Dinkytown's significant contributions to the city, from launching major literary milestones to folk music, civil rights, and anti-war movements.

Bill will be giving an author talk at the Southeast Library on Thursday, October 27, from 6 - 7:30 pm.

For more information on his book, visit HERE.

And speaking of Dinkytown, there will be a Dinkytown History Fireside Chat at the Hennepin History Museum, led by Cara Letofsky. The chat will explore Dinkytown's early commercial years, signature buildings, legacy businesses, and its role in the student protests of the 1960s. 6th Avenue SE Greenway Garden Care Days

Please Help Care for Our Mississippi River Connection

SUNDAY, OCT 9, 3 - 5 pm

We will be planting rescued Solomons Seal from 8th St SE, filling in the east side more, and watering the new plants. We will also continue tending the west side, including making space for the Blue Stem and other grasses to thrive.

SUNDAY, OCT 30, 3 - 5 pm

We will be preparing the greenway for winter, gathering and planting seeds and trimming plants on the west side. We will plan together for a season-end celebration of our greening team.

Meet on 6th Ave SE just south of University Ave SE!
We'll provide gloves, you bring a trowel!

Take a Survey on a Proposed University Avenue Protected Bikeway

The Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition is collecting survey responses over the issue of a potential protected bikeway along University Avenue SE. Under consideration are a 1- or 2-way protected bikeway along University, or having a pair of 1-way protected bikeways on 4th Street SE and University Avenue SE. To fill out the survey, and to see images illustrating the options, please visit HERE.

Temporary Bollards Installed on 2nd Street SE

Working over a couple years with Council member Jacob Frey's office, the Transportation Committee supported a creative approach to traffic calming and pedestrian accessibility at 2nd St SE and 3rd Ave SE. The bollard refuge islands could be quickly deployed at low cost, giving neighbors the opportunity to almost instantly feel a difference when traversing a street with sometimes fast traffic on the way to and from the river. If you want to help bring more of these projects to the neighborhood, join us at the next Transportation Committee meeting!
