Dear Parents
Mr Atkinson started our week with a good quote ' It's Monday, don't forget to be awesome'. Gateway children did not forget to be awesome all week and they have had plenty of opportunity to show just how impressive they are in the classroom, on the sports field and in all their extra curricular activities. We have started the year with some strong sporting successes: in cross country last weekend retaining the Chris Aperghis Cup; U11 football where we have qualified for the ESFA finals on Saturday; and in another fine performance at a Triathlon in Essex on Thursday. We have also enjoyed our first House Meetings of the year and had our first update on House positions. I have also awarded the first three House Merit Badges of the year to three Year 6 pupils.

This week the Year 4 children have enjoyed classifying minibeasts, using Venn and Carroll diagrams. This cross curricular activity linked well with the habitat and minibeast searches that we carried out on our trip to Holly Green Farm, as well as developing key mathematical data handling skills. |

House Poetry - Weeks commencing 31st October and 7th November |

Verse speaking has long been a tradition at Gateway and we continue to believe in the value that this brings to developing memory, confidence and self esteem. Speaking and Listening is an important element of the English curriculum as well as a vital life skill. Each child will bring home a poem before half term. |

The Thame Arts Festival is taking place from the 12th to the 16th October. This includes a return visit from Kev F Sutherland. His Comic Art Masterclass last year was so popular he has agreed to run two classes this year. The writer and artist for The Beano, Marvel and many other comics brings his famous skills to Thame. Kev will teach you all there is to know about making comic strips and his Masterclass is open to all children from the age of 7 upwards.
There is also a chance to see Chris Lloyd talking about "The Complete Works of Shakespeare".
