Dinner seating begins at 4:30 p.m. with dinner served at 5 p.m. in The Founders, located on the lower level of the SWU Dining Commons, which is located beside historic Childs Hall. VIP reserved parking will be provided for you.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. at Newton-Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center auditorium on Wesleyan Drive. Committed is the R&B/Pop singing group who won Season 2 of the NBC musical competition “The Sing-Off." The concert begins at 7 p.m.

SWU’s 5th Annual Run2Fall 5K offers a challenging course for all ages. Walkers and runners are welcome to participate in this year’s glow themed event! We're excited to announce that this run will use chip timing for the first time ever, and our course will be marked by USATF standards. Exercise has never been this fun! P.B. Wood Tournament tees off Oct. 3 at Smithfields Country Club

Wood Golf Tournament was played at Smithfields Country Club in Easley. According to Tony Payne, associate vice president for development, the tournament raised approximately $30,000. Special thanks to golfers who came out and the many sponsors who made this event a success!

SWU business programs in Candidacy for ACBSP Accreditation

The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) announced that Southern Wesleyan University is a candidate for ACBSP accreditation of business degree programs offered through the School of Business.

“We are excited about embarking on this journey as ACBSP accreditation would be a recognition of our demonstrated and ongoing commitment to quality business education for our students,” said Dr. Jeannie Trudel, dean of Southern Wesleyan’s School of Business. “This is another positive step aligning our great programs with nationally and internationally established standards.”

South Carolina Supreme Court Justice John W. Kittredge shared his views about issues facing the criminal justice system to SWU students, faculty, staff and invited guests Oct. 10. Kittredge, who serves in South Carolina’s highest court, gave an overview of the system of law enforcement, corrections and the judiciary.

Women's Golf shot 343 and 342 in the NCCAA South Region held at Highland Walk Golf Course in Royston, Ga. Claire Page shot a 79/79, allowing her to tie for medalist honors and qualify for the Nationals as an individual. Read more>>

Alumni News

SWU alumnus Greg Edmonds (’97) is traveling to Haiti as part of Wesleyan relief efforts for victims of Hurricane Matthew. Haiti’s death toll passed the thousand mark. Hardest hit were the southern and southwest parts of Haiti. Also, Cholera is sweeping the island nation, being spread due to a lack of clean drinking water and killing many more Haitians.

Edmonds has a heart for the Haitian people, having traveled to Haiti with SWU students and alumni in the wake of the devastating 2010 earthquake. Edmonds asks for prayers for safety and God’s provision as he and his team plan for short, middle and long-term relief. Long term needs Edmonds mentions are for teams of volunteers to assist in repairing and rebuilding churches that were destroyed. Congratulations!

Avery Olivia Constance was born Sept. 20 to Jason (’05) and Lindsey Constance, at 7 lbs. 12 oz. and 19 inches long.

Patrick (’03) and Katie Lord Dagenhart welcomed Campbell Tate into the world Sept. 26, weighing in at 7 lbs. 6 oz. and 19.5 inches long. Big sister Marlee is in love with her brand new baby brother as well, Patrick reports.

Tim Johnson ('12), a graduate of Southern Wesleyan University, was named the School District of Pickens County’s 2016 Teacher of the Year. Johnson is a business education and agriculture teacher at Liberty High School. Although he earned an MBA from SWU, Johnson was inspired by his parents, both educators, to become a teacher.

Wade Metcalf (’15) has been promoted to billing lead by Tech-24, where he will be over a team of employees in his department. According to Metcalf, Tech-24 is transitioning through a time of rapid growth. He says his SWU degree “has been the key to opening many doors,” giving him a strong career foundation.

Every child deserves a little Christmas and this year SWU is helping to make this happen by participating in the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots campaign through the Marine Corps League in Oconee County.

Donations can be dropped off at the SWU Alumni Center, located in Terry Annex on SWU's Central campus. Donations will be accepted through the morning of Friday, Dec. 9. All toys will be picked up by or delivered to the Marine Corps League that afternoon.

In addition, if any of you know of a local family in need of Christmas for their children, there are applications for Toys for Tots assistance available. These are due by Nov. 28. For details contact Donna Pittman in the Office of Academic Records at ext. 5536 or by email at dpittman@swu.edu.
