The Libraries of Foster Annual Meeting on Tuesday, October 11 will be at the Eddy Building, Foster Center, starting at 6:30 pm.  On Display: A special exhibit,  Rare Books and Photos on Foster History from the Library Special Collections.
NOTE:  Foster Public Library is closed on Sunday for the Columbus Day Weekend.

The date of the next Friends meeting is Monday, October 24 at 6 pm, Tyler Free Library.
Community Meeting on Library Services for Foster Oct. 12, 6 pm Foster Town House
You can help plan for future library service in Foster.
All are welcome with their ideas and comments.
The Board of Trustees and the newly formed Library Building Facilities Planning Committee will use the ideas from this meeting to plan future library service

Adult Programs

The Cookbook Club
Thursday October 13 at 6:00 pm. at Foster Public Library. The cooking theme is German Cuisine. Please bring a sample dish to share. No time to cook?  Join us anyway! And bring a donation of non-perishable food for the Foster food bank.  Recipes for the group can be copied free of charge at the library.
The Book Discussion Group
Monday October 17 at 6:15 pm Tyler Free Library.  We will be reading The Key of Light by Nora Roberts.  Join us for a lively conversation as we discuss the selection of the month; new members are always welcome. Contact us to reserve a copy of the book.
Home Photo Preservation: finding your way in the world of digital photography
Saturday, Oct. 22, 1 to 3 pm at Foster Public Library.
Mary Jo Chretien will explain how to convert slides, photos and store digital images, permanently.  Pick up some ideas for creative books, calendars, photo cards and scrapbooking.
Volunteering for Hospice
 Wednesday, October 26, 2 pm at Foster Public Library. Ashley Toste of Beacon Hospice will give an introductory talk about Hospice and about how to become a Hospice volunteer.  Please pre-register by calling 397-4801.
Gilbert Stuart: Master Portrait Artist
Thursday, October 27, 6 pm at Foster Public. Margaret O’Connor, Executive Director of the Gilbert Stuart Birthplace and Museum, will talk about the famous artist’s life, paintings and his historic Colonial home in Saunderstown.
The Shanteyman
Saturday, October 29, 1 pm at Moosup Valley Grange. Mr. Whitehouse (you'll remember him from his days teaching at CIP) is "The Santeyman." Join us for a family event, interactive and filled with music, a maritime ghost story, or two! For all ages.
From his website: Shanties are work songs sailors used to coordinate the rhythm of the work effort. The illustration shows sailors turning a capstan ’round. Songs for the capstan could be “Bonnie Laddie, Hieland Laddie,” “Bound Down Trinidad” or the well-known song “Shenandoah.”

Wednesdays 10 a.m. at Tyler Free Library
Each Wednesday at we meet at the library at 10:00 am to read stories, sing songs, play and make a simple craft project.  Snacks provided. For ages 0 - 5                                                                        
Youth Programs
After School Programs,  3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. at Foster Public Library
Thursdays for grades K–5
Transportation on Bus 5 will be provided on Thursdays from Paine School to Foster Center Library (with note from parent), light snack provided.

Afterschool Children's Theater Program   Meeting Wednesday after school at Foster Public Library until November 2nd.
Join Mrs. Murphy and Swamp meadow volunteers as they teach various acting methods,
Techniques and styles.   A special performance will be held on the last day!

Family Night: Movie and PJs
Friday, October 21, 5 p.m. at Tyler Free Library. Families are invited to come and watch a not-so-scary Halloween Movie!  Popcorn and drinks will be provided!

Friends of the Libraries of Foster
Save the date for a Harvest Contra Dance on October 22 at 7pm at the Moosup Valley Grange with special guest Caller, Elwood Donnelly!  Music will be by Jim Van Gieson and The May Bee's. Add in refreshments and raffles and it all adds up to a great evening. Tickets on sale now at Foster Public Library and Tyler Free Library. Proceeds will be used by The Libraries of Foster for public programing.
