Early SC16 Registration Ends Sunday, Oct. 16
Have you registered yet for SC16? If not, there’s still time – and you can save a chunk of change to boot!
The fee structure for SC16 makes it advantageous to register early. Registering early for the Technical Program can save you up to $275 off your registration, depending on your registration category. Also, registering for Tutorials by the deadline can save you up to $350 off that registration. Register early for both the Technical Program and Tutorials and save up to $625!

SC16 'KiddieCorp' Registration Closes Friday, Oct. 14
For the first time SC16 will offer professional childcare services in the convention center to registered attendees and exhibitors. Children between the ages of 6 months through 12 years old are eligible to participate in the fun and activities! Activities include arts & crafts, group games, music and movement, board games, story time and dramatic play.
Extensive childcare hours are available every day beginning Sunday, November 13, through Friday, November 18. All children using the KiddieCorp childcare services must be registered in advance by a parent or legal guardian.
Cost:
- Attendees and Exhibitors: $6.00 per hour
- SC16 Committee Members: $5.00 per hour
- Students: $3.00 per hour

SC16 Housing Deadline Extended
The deadline for housing at SC16 in Salt Lake City has been extended from October 14 to October 18.
A range of prices is available, and free Internet access is included with all rooms booked through our hotel reservation website.
Many SC16 hotels are located within a few blocks of the Convention Center. Others are located near the Salt Lake City Airport for convenient arrivals and departures. A few others are located near the University of Utah campus. Bus transportation will be provided to/from any conference hotels farther than .5 miles from the Convention Center.
Recommend Someone for 'Dinner with Interesting People'
The SC16 Students@SC Program is hosting a “Dinner with Interesting People” on Wednesday, November 16. But it’s more than just dinner—it is a networking event designed to help students hone their networking skills by interacting with these Interesting People.
Interesting People could be from our HPC community or other interesting fields. We are especially interested in recommendations for Interesting People who will add to the diversity of the event. Interesting People are likely to be either:
- Expected attendees at SC16
- From Salt Lake City or nearby area

Mentors Needed - Sign Up to Help Guide a Student
When registering for SC16, consider signing up as a mentor to help students get the most out of the conference and make a difference in their careers. Organized as part of the Students@SC program, the Mentor-Protégé Program supports the growth of a vibrant HPC community by connecting the newcomers at the SC conference with experienced conference attendees.
For many students, SC16 will be their first conference and can be overwhelming, but a mentor can help them make the best use of their time and make personal connections. Conference attendees who have attended SC one or more times in the past are encouraged to sign up to be mentors by checking the appropriate box when they register for SC. Read how one SC14 protege got a new job and became a mentor at SC15.
Mentors should plan their travel arrangements so they can attend an afternoon mixer for mentors and protégés on Monday, November 14, 3:30-5 p.m.

ACM/IEEE-CS Award Winners Announced
The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and IEEE Computer Society recently announced the winners of three awards that are highly regarded by the high performance computing community.
William D. Gropp, a professor of computer science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, was awarded the 2016 ACM/IEEE Computer Society Ken Kennedy Award for his influential contributions to the programmability of high-performance parallel and distributed computers.
Dr. William Camp, Director Emeritus at Sandia National Laboratories, was awarded the 2016 IEEE Computer Society Seymour Cray Computer Engineering Award for his visionary leadership of the Red Storm project, and for decades of leadership of the HPC community.
Vipin Kumar, a professor at University of Minnesota, Computer Science and Engineering Department, was awarded the 2016 IEEE Computer Society Sidney Fernbach Award for his foundational work on understanding scalability, and highly scalable algorithms for graph partitioning, sparse linear systems and data mining.
The societies also announced the recipients of the IEEE-CS TCHPC Award for Excellence for Early Career Researchers in High Performance Computing:
- Kyle Chard, Computation Institute, University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory
- Sunita Chandrasekaran, Assistant Professor, University of Delaware
- Seyong Lee, Oak Ridge National Laboratory
