UOSSM'S FIVE HEROES
Five UOSSM medical staff were killed last month in the line of duty. The five medics, three nurses and two drivers, were responding to a dispatch from the Khan Touman Medical Point in southern Aleppo, to triage wounded civilians to a nearby hospital.
Upon their arrival the area was hit with another airstrike claiming the lives of four of the medics and placing the fifth medic, a nurse in critical condition. The two ambulances were also destroyed. The fifth nurse, died a few days later due to the extent of his injuries.
#OurFiveHeroes gave their lives selflessly in the service of others. They ranged in ages from 24-44 years of age and each had at least one child, one nurse had five children.
Our hearts go out to the victims, their families and all of the victims of the brutal war in Syria.

Medical Workers Go on Strike in Syria
On September 28, doctors, medical staff, and humanitarians participated in a 3 hour planned work strike (non-emergency only)  to protest against the relentless targeting of medical facilities and health professionals in Syria. The medical professionals carried signs saying, "NO More", "Stop the holocaust in Aleppo", "Doctors Are Not the Enemy", and various signs in honor and memory of the five UOSSM staff, and all medical staff killed in Syria.
UPDATES FROM THE GROUND IN SYRIA
September was a brutal month for health care in Syria. Many hospitals were bombed and shut down. Convoys carrying humanitarian aid were destroyed and the situation is growing more dangerous by the day.

Despite the relentless danger, UOSSM is determined to continue to provide medical care, relief and support to those who need it the most including hard to reach areas.

  2. To strengthen the referral system and optimize emergency care by establishing an emergency center and the evacuation of severe emergency cases, by fully equipping five ambulances. The project also includes: medications, medical consumables, staff salaries, and other expenses such as food and fuel. The project will last for six months.
