Prayer Services
Wednesday, 6:30-6:50 pm
Thursday, 12-12:20 pm

We gather in the sanctuary to offer prayers for evacuees, first responders, emergency personnel and those in the path of Hurricane Matthew. A prayer for those in the storm’s path

Merciful God, when the storms rage and threaten to overtake us, awaken our faith to know the power of your peace. Deliver us from our fear and ease our anxiety. Help us to endure the time of uncertainty and give us strength to face the challenges ahead. Give us the assurance of your presence even in this time so that we can cling to your promise of hope and life shown to us through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

“Hearts & Treasures” Adult Faith Milestone

Adult Faith Milestone continues this Sunday at 9:30am in the Fellowship Hall.  We are blessed to have Mr. Micah Velilla leading this special series on “More than Money Matters” – which invites us to explore our relationship with God and how it guides our life-responses as disciples in daily decisions.  It is a wonderful opportunity for adults at all stages of life (incl. Fall Cottage Gatherings for Everyone!

Our Cottage Gatherings over the past few years have been wonderful experiences, and we are excited to assemble our updated In-Touch groups this fall.

These gatherings provide opportunity for our LS family of faith to catch up with each other regarding our Spirt-Tugs and God-Stories, as well as offer focus on our G.I.F.T. (Growing in Faith Together) Discipleship emphasis.  At this year’s fall gatherings, everyone will receive a copy of their 2017 G.I.F.T. Discipleship Commitment Card, plus an updated version of the LS Time & Talent sheet.  Our commitments will be offered and celebrated on Sunday, Nov. 13 at our big G.I.F.T. Commitment Sunday, which will include the annual Congregational Ministry Meeting brunch, between services. Invitations are being sent out by each group. If you cannot attend your group’s gathering, please find another date on the list and rsvp to the appropriate leader.

If camping is not your thing, come join us on Saturday to enjoy the beautiful outdoors.  We will have activities for all ages following a cookout lunch, as well as a devotional time in the late afternoon and plenty of fellowship throughout the day.

Please sign up by October 9th on the signup sheet in the Fellowship Hall or through Signup Genius, so that we can prepare enough food.  There will be plenty of time to enjoy fishing, hiking, kayaking and many other activities available at the park.  More information about Poinsett State Park can be found at http://southcarolinaparks.com/poinsett/poinsett-things.aspx.  For more information on the camping trip, please contact Mike Davidson (mdavidson33@gmail.com) or Bob Turnmire (bob.turnmire@gmail.com).

Lessons for Sunday, October 9

First Reading: 2 Kings 5:1-3, 7-15c

Naaman, a Syrian general, suffers from leprosy. In this passage Elisha miraculously cures his illness, but only after Naaman realizes, with the help of his servants, that he also needs healing for his pride. This foreign general then acknowledges the sovereignty of the God of Israel.

Psalm 111

I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart. (Ps. 111:1)

Second Reading: 2 Timothy 2:8-15

Though Paul is chained as a prisoner, he reminds Timothy that the word of God is never shackled or confined. He encourages his young friend to proclaim that word of freedom in an honest and upright life as well as in his teaching and preaching.

Gospel: Luke 17:11-19

Jesus’ mission includes making the unclean clean again. Unexpectedly, a cleansed Samaritan leper becomes a model for those who would praise and worship God and give thanks for God’s mercy.

Church Humor...

Do you have some church humor you'd like to share? We would love to share it too! Send your humor to Lisa in the office.
A little boy was attending his first wedding.

After the service, his cousin asked him, "How many women can a man marry?"

"Sixteen," the boy responded.  His cousin was amazed that he had an
answer so quickly.

"How do you know that?"

"Easy," the little boy said.

"All you have to do is add it up, like the pastor said,

4 better, 4 worse, 4 richer, 4 poorer."
