Autumn is official here and the feelings of letting go and making room for new is in the air. We had a great October welcoming some new initiatives and teachers. We hosted a free Yoga taster, ate cake and raised money for the MacMillian coffee morning, started our ULab hub and the Tribe Porty Youth Theatre kids got a chance to work with Ross Noble.

Regular classes are now back in full swing, check out our online calendar for more information.

Magic Flutes

A successful flute workshop was held this month by flute player, teacher and music leader, Gordon Turnbull. We enjoy having flutes adding magic to the Tribe vibe, and look forward to having Gordon back for monthly sessions! Read more about him here

Other extraordinary music happenings at Tribe are String Fiddle Workshops, and Early Years Creative Music Classes, run by the Portobello Music School.

On the 10th November, we also have Lokeshvarii starting Thursday evening Kundalini Yoga classes at TribePorty, which we are also very excited about.

We do like to promote and support our Yoga teachers on Yogatrail, where you can keep in touch with your favourite teacher and their classes, as well as TribePorty and the classes that we provide! Your first class is free – give it a go!

Kinder Communities
The power of everyday relationships

There is a body of evidence that consistently shows that positive relationships and kindness are at the very heart of our wellbeing. In this discussion paper Carnegie Associate Zoe Ferguson starts a process to engage directly with people who want to inject kindness back into their work and communities.  This discussion paper explores the evidence on the impact of everyday relationships and kindness on individual and societal wellbeing, and community empowerment and develops a theory of change.  Over the coming months the project aims to learn with communities and organisations involved in developing practical approaches to encourage kinder communities. See here to read the publication.

This month we welcome 4 new co-working members.

Tribe Porty welcomes Agot Bugge, Agot is an arts and festival advisor and works for Norway Festivals, which is the leading, national and crossover network organisation for Norwegian arts and cultural festivals – in Norway - counting 75 member festivals. Agot has recently moved back to Portobello with her family.

We also welcome Heid Jerstad, Heid has just finished her PhD in social anthropology at Edinburgh on how people live with weather in the Indian Himalayas and is tutoring undergrads while putting together the Weather Matters site and preparing for a Global Challenges Research Fund Fellowship.

Lorna Sherwood joins us for just one month, to give her somewhere to focus on the pre-course homework for a course run by CodeClan. The course will give Lorna the basics skills and knowledge to get a job in the Tech industry, such as a junior web developer. Lorna expects to spend her days with us in a state of confusion! This is a career change for her as she used to work for the Scottish Government in agriculture and farm subsidies.

And lastly we welcome Robert Egan. Robert currently lives in the Findhorn Community Eco Village in the North of Scotland but is moving to Edinburgh. He works as a Business Consultant primarily for a metals company in America but is looking to move into social enterprise.

Work Is Where The Heart Is

Home is where the heart is. But so is work. It’s not like we just turn off our personality, our interests, our humanity, or our natural inclination toward happiness, comfort, and kinship just because we’re at work. The Braid Creative Blog has many great reads regarding work and creativity, read more here
