Helping Hackney Wick Residents to get and stay well

In September residents got together to build on the priorities they identified over the summer for improving wellbeing for all residents in Hackney Wick.

During the meeting three key themes were developed to meet the needs of the community. Firstly, different activities are needed to improve wellbeing of adults, young people and children, by making local people feel better connected to their area. Secondly, the need for making better use of the green space at Mabley Green, which is going to become the largest edible park in Hackney. Lastly, the group identified developing Gascoyne Hall 2 into a community hub, as it has the potential to host a range of activities to improve the health and wellbeing of the wider community.

Investing in our Young People

Wick Award has allocated £20,000 to develop a youth voice within the Big Local Programme.

A number of local youth providers have submitted proposals for supporting local young people and getting them involved in Wick Award. Proposals which will be considered by a panel of residents later this month and the winning organisation will start working with local young people this autumn.

Big local training program

Wick Award has got together with Big Other Local Programmes to organise a training program to support active residents to promote their work in local communities.

The training is free for anyone involved in Big Local and will be delivered at Friends Meeting House, Euston. Travel expenses and lunch will be covered. Courses include project management, financial advice, social media, and aspects related to developing Big local.
