United Methodist Women (UMW) is a worldwide organization which focuses on mission with women, children and youth. At the United Methodist General Conference in Portland, OR, UM Women Day was celebrated to mark their 150th anniversary. Women had a day of celebration, advocacy, and recommitment to mission with women, children and youth on May 16, 2016. Women long ago realized that they were seen as less important and along with children were not getting the care and support they needed; so, a few Methodist women in a few churches got together and began to help women in other countries, thus began this worldwide organization.
It is exciting that Calvary UMW is now reorganized and getting started on its journey again. Our church used to have a very vital and active unit which served many meals and collected money for our purpose. The UMW Purpose: UMW shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church. We are inviting all women to become part of this worldwide organization. Much has been done and can be done when women get together for mission.
Volunteers Needed for Old Allegheny Antique Show on October 8-9, 2016 We want all women to know about our program for the Fall so all may take part. Our first meeting will be on Saturday, September 10th at the church beginning at 10:00am. We are embarking on our first fundraiser by hosting a table at the Antique Sale on October 8 &9. At our meeting we will be getting items ready for that event. Please come: “many hands make light work.” We will also need women to work at the table on October 8th & 9th.
Service of Commitment and Celebration on Sunday, October 16, 2016 Our most exciting event will happen on Sunday, October 16th during our regular service. We will all take part in a service of Commitment and Celebration for Reorganized units of UMW. This will mark our official entrance into the national UMW. Our Pittsburgh District president, Pam Konopasek, and Conference UMW president, Diane Miller, will be present to help us celebrate.
Guest Speaker on Saturday, November 5, 2016 - Caitlin Werth, Women in Allegheny Jail On Saturday, November 5 at 10:00am Caitlin Werth, who is Chaplin and Program Director of Foundation of Hope, will be here to tell us about her work with women in the Allegheny County Jail. This is a segment of the population often forgotten but one in which women should be informed. Perhaps there is some way our unit can become involved when we become more informed.
This is only the beginning of our journey together. Ladies, please stay tuned and join us when you are able. We would love to welcome you to learn more about this wonderful organization.
Join us as we celebrate the stewardship that assists Calvary United Methodist Church in being the hands and feet of Jesus Christ in our community and world. Stewardship is not just about money. Generosity is a matter of action, intentions, and heart. Over the next 8 Sundays we will be celebrating our ministries and partners and how they impact stewardship at Calvary. We will also be learning about the many ways that we can give at Calvary and the resources available to you.
Calvary’s Partners Church partnerships are essential in meeting the needs of our community. The United Methodist Church has long recognized the power of working partnerships to invest in the human and financial resources for helping our community and world. Over the eight Sundays we will be celebrating these important partnerships which enable us to do things we could never accomplish alone.

UMCOR Requests Cleaning Buckets For Flooding Victims
HELP NEEDED – Connellsville, West Virginia, Louisiana – all have been in the news because of dramatic flooding. In each of these natural disasters, and others around the world, the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is on the scene with needed relief. For flood clean-up we provide CLEANING BUCKETS that enable safe cleaning of flooded buildings. The supply of these kits is constantly being depleted, so the Mission Committee challenges you to help us fill buckets with needed supplies. Bring one or more of the items on the list, or make cash offering (marked “Cleaning Buckets”) so that we can purchase the added components. We hope to fill at least five buckets by the end of October. Please contact Rev. Myles or Joan Bradley at ogremtb@aol.com with any questions.
Cleaning Bucket Materials
5-gallon bucket with resealable lid
Buckets from fast-food restaurants or bakeries can be used if washed and cleaned;
Do not use buckets that have stored chemicals such as paint or pool cleaner;

Place all liquid items in the bucket first. Place remaining items in the bucket, fitting them around and between the liquid items. Sponges, scouring pads, clothespins, and trash bags can be separated in order to fit all of the items in the bucket. Ensure the lid is closed securely.
Important Notes
All items must be new except for the actual bucket and lid.
All cleaning agents must be liquid and in plastic containers. No powders, please.
If you cannot find the requested size of a liquid item, use a smaller size. Including larger sizes of any item will prevent the lid from sealing.
