Trail News & Information

New Trail on the way

A new trail in Klamath Falls is in the developmental stage. When finished, it will go from the intersection of Foothills Blvd and Vandenberg Rd (just below the County Jail) to the plateau where then various county buildings are, including the jail. The distance will be less than a mile.
What is significant is the strong community support that gave it life, with little or no red tape.
Kiki Parker-Rose, of Klamath County Community Corrections, felt the need to help folks who were walking up Vandenberg Road, with no shoulder and blind curves. The new trail will allow people of average ability to safely walk up or down. For the time being, the trail will have a dirt bed. If there is enough usage, the county might eventually pave it.
Various groups are cooperating to speed up the project. In addition to Parker-Rose, there was strong interest and support from Klamath County Commissioner Kelley Minty-Morris and Jennifer Little, of SkyLakes and Klamath Trails Alliance.
Kevin Jones and Zach Gilmour, both of KTA, went out within days of the initial meeting to hike the property and flag the route. There was also help from ODOT to use part of their right-of-way. The County owns most of the land and will provide the labor to cut the trail. KTA can provide maintenance work, if needed.
KTA fundraiser

Biagio's Bar and Grille is hosting a fundraiser for the Klamath Trails Alliance: NOVEMBERFEST.
The event is a wine and beer tasting -- from Oregon brewers and wineries -- along with a great meal. This year the band Hermano will play for local entertainment to accompany the wining and dining.
Join us for a fun night at 7 p.m. on Nov. 12, and benefit the KTA at the same time. Check out the Facebook event page.

Other News:
Moore Cowbell Cyclocross
The Moore Cowbell Cyclocross brought in many riders from the Rogue Valley. The course and venue is a favorite within the Southern Oregon racing community which is why we get a great turnout.
Surprisingly, there were few attendees from Klamath Falls.
Local Racers who placed in the series were as follows:  David Scott - 1st 1/2/3 Men, Linda Tessman 2nd 1/2/3 Women 35+, Nell Scott - 1st 1/2/3 Women,  Rich Wolf - 1st 50+ Men Cat 3/4/5 (overall Cat 3/4/5 Men winner), Scott Anderson - 1st Cat 3/4/5 Men, Kent Druckenmiller - 2nd Cat 3/4/5 Men.
What was different this year, was how many of the out of town racers, brought their mountain bikes in addition to their cyclocross bikes, to check out the Spence Mountain trails.  A few took their bikes and rode along Lakeshore Drive to explore the area.
Thanks to Chancellor Drilling, PMF Metal Forming, Klamath Orthopedic, and Rodeos Pizza for sponsoring the event.  Thanks to following (Zach Gilmour, Debbie Rogers, Alicia Jones, Amber Syngh, Jeremy Morris, Melinda McGuire, Lisa & Colter Chancellor, Jeff Quinn, Jennifer, Jenny Bartloff, Cesar & Maria Espinoza, Sam Phillip Cox, Kevin & Alicia Jones, Linda Tessman)  who helped set up/take down the course, registration,  and course marshaling.
New bike shop opens

Zach Gilmour, the former manager of Hutch’s, decided to open his own place: Zach's Bike Shop. Located at 835 Main St., it offers full cycling services,  as well as repairs and tune-ups. And it features new bicycles from Trek.
Zach and Lillian are both strong advocates of KTA, not only giving donations but directing donations to us from other sources and running fund raising events as well as volunteering and leading many trail maintenance days. Stop by and check the store out.
