Elliot Royce's Bicycle and Seuss Hat

We are honored to be the new home for the whimsical bicycle and Dr. Seuss Hat trailer that belonged to Elliot Royce who passed away in July of 2015 at the age of 96.  Many thanks to the Royce family for entrusting us with this iconic symbol of the unique spirit of Elliot and St. Louis Park.  You can read more about Elliot in this touching tribute and collection of stories curated by his family: Elliot's Website

ANNUAL MEETING RECAP
September 13, 2016

We had a great Annual Meeting at the Rec Center last month.  A few of the key messages we shared were:
  • We are on track to end the year with a balanced budget and a healthy reserve fund.
  • Membership is at 256, a slight decrease from last year.
  • We redesigned the Re-Echo this year and have heard very positive feedback - but we are in desperate need for help in both managing and writing for the newsletter.
  • Fundraising through street signs has slowed, though we have raised money from extra Echowans and phone directories.
  • We had many successful events including our Historic Connections series, Parktacular, and Depot Open House - thanks to Discover SLP for sponsoring us!
  • We continue to collect historic objects, conduct research, and write and edit stories for our website.  There are too many to list here, so stop by some Saturday to learn more!
Thank you to all our volunteers, Trustees, and members for another successful year!  We always are looking for additional leaders and volunteers, please reach out if you are interested!
Catch up on the News

History Center Planning Announcement: The Sun Sailor shared our plans for pushing forward on a History Center for St. Louis Park.  We are starting to create a Building Committee to help with this specific goal, if you are interested in participating please let us know.

Prince's SLP Warehouse:  Jeanne Andersen penned a short article in the SLP Magazine after some extensive research to track down the warehouse that Prince wrote and planned a lot of his movie Purple Rain.  The building no longer stands, but it is a fun story!
Have a Great Holiday Memory?

Brief stories are needed!  We are looking for some holiday themed stories to share in the winter Re-Echo.  Nothing elaborate, we just want to share a few of your memories.  If you are willing to share, please email Ted Ekkers to discuss further.
