Lowlife Love
From the director of Greatful Dead!

The first 100% Third Window Films production! A black comedy looking at the seedy side of no-budget film-making in Japan!

Penniless and good-for-nothing. The scum of the universe - a film about the rock bottom world of indie film-making - is born.
A 39 year-old struggling lowlife film director played by Kiyohiko Shibukawa, AKA “the unique actor loved by directors”, who is constantly cast by directors such as Takashi Miike, Sogo Ishii and Toshiaki Toyoda. His colleague, a lowlife producer is played by Denden, a regular cast member of Sion Sono’s films. The other cast includes the in-demand talents of Houka Kinoshita and Kanji Tsuda, also Chika Uchida, Shugo Oshinari, Yoshihiko Hosoda and Kanji Furutachi who show off their distinctive styles as well as introducing a 'new face' of Japanese indie cinema, Maya Okano, who plays the heroine.

Lowlife Love is the 2nd partnership between Third Window Films and director Eiji Uchida, whose film GREATFUL DEAD was released by us. but in this case we have solely produced the film ourselves so it's the first truly 'Third Window Production'!

London East Asian Film Festival
October 20-30

The London East Asia Film Festival announced the full programme of its first full “edition” this week, and there is a very strong Korean selection as well as a some of the best new Japanese films and more! As already announced, there will be a retrospective of one of Korea’s best known directors, Park Chan-wook, along with a screening of his most recent movie The Handmaiden. In addition, there are screenings of some of Korea’s most talked-about movies from this year: Kim Ji-woon’s Age of Shadows and Cho Jung-rae’s Spirit’s Homecoming. If you missed Kim Sang-Chan’s Karaoke Crazies at Frightfest at the end of August, or the brief UK theatrical release of Kim Sung-hoon’s Tunnel earlier this month, you have another chance to catch them. There’s an interesting departure from Kang Woo-suk, whose historical drama Gosanja will be screening as part of the festival’s Official Selection, alongside Tunnel and Kim Tae-gon’s Goodbye Single. A collaboration with the Jeonju International Film Festival will bring Kim Soo-hyun’s Great Patrioteers, Ryu Hoon’s Curtain Call and Ko Hee-young’s Breathing Underwater, while Yoon Ga-eun’s The World of Us complements Spirit’s Homecoming in the Stories of Women strand.

For their selection of Japanese titles, our favourite Japanese film of the 2016 Harmonium gets a screening alongside Kiyoshi Kurosawa's highly acclaimed Creepy and Kaori Mamoi's Berlin film festival selected Hee. There are many more Japanese and other Asian titles to choose from alongside
plenty of Q+As and personal appearances!

Keep an eye on the official website,
www.leaff.org.uk or their Facebook page; and if you want details of countries and directors of all the films listed in the full programme belowhead over to Eastern Kicks where Andrew Heskins has done the hard work
