St. Stephen's and The Vine

I am delighted to share the work of The Vine with you in this first edition of our eNewsletter. In the Fall of 2006 we began the work of The Vine with this idea:

CONVERSATION + COLLABORATION + COMMUNITY = CHANGE

We work with others to respond to the needs and opportunities in Ferguson and beyond. Now 10 years later we celebrate our current collaborations with Youth Futures, Strings Attached and the , as we look to growing our two newest new initiatives; The Ferguson Peace Meal and Incubate Ferguson's Kitchen Incubator. Thanks to all who share in this important work as we look forward to the next 10 years!

Here at The Vine, we look to partner with various community organizations. One of our current partners is MU Extension’s 4H Youth Futures. The purpose of Youth Futures is to prepare youth, grades 7-12, for life and college, and allow them the opportunity to explore different career fields.

As a part of our partnership, Cornita Robinson, Director of Development for The Vine, now serves as a dual agent and oversees the Youth Futures site here in Ferguson, which is stationed out of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. Through this collaboration, we are able to offer college tours, ACT prep; workshops on financial literacy, study habits, communication, and time management; and a variety of other opportunities.

The Strings Attached project began in 2009 offering nonprofit music education opportunities to neighborhood youth in American roots music. With the help of generous supporters and partners, we’ve served hundreds of youth in local St. Louis neighborhoods through individual lessons, small ensemble creations, summer camps, summer academies, in-school residencies and school visits. We’ve started the 2016 year with continued individual classes in Ferguson and South Grand St. Louis. We’re also giving weekly lessons to over 100 kids at New City School.

From now until Christmas Day, 2016, Strings Attached is collecting donations through the Arts and Education Council – St. Louis for our 2017 Guitar Awards. Each year, we give guitars and ukuleles to music students who spend at least 1 year with their music studies, attend lessons regularly and perform in the community. Your donations will help provide next year’s instruments. Donations are tax-deductible and a good alternative gift-giving consideration. Donate at Strings Attached Award Guitars .

Dear Ferguson Business Owner,

St. Stephen’s & The Vine is entering its third year of hosting the Community Peace Meal here in Ferguson, MO. The Community Peace Meal is a free meal held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, on the fourth Sunday of every month, in an effort to create community unity in a safe and inviting space.

Since its start in 2015, the Community Peace Meal has grown to include sponsorships from community groups and organizations. To date we have had eight various groups sponsor a Peace Meal and we are hoping with your help, we can increase that number, while also promoting your products and business.

Our Ask:
We are asking different community organizations to prepare and serve a meal to the community on the 4th Sunday of the month. Below you will find all the available dates:

Each meal is meant to serve 50-100 people. If this is something you would like to be a part of please let me know what date(s) you would like and the meal you would like to serve (i.e. Spaghetti dinner, soup & salad, etc.). Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.
