Tennessee FBLA Membership Update

Many chapters have already kicked membership recruitment into overdrive! Kudos to the chapters below! It's never "too early" to submit your chapter membership rosters or add additional members to be eligible for the various membership campaign awards. Our Tennessee FBLA membership goal is 7,500+ by December 1, 2016. The minimum chapter size required is five student members and one chapter adviser. Here's a snapshot of our association's numbers as of October 18:

Memphis Grizzlies Pro Sports Career Day

The Memphis Grizzlies Pro Sports Career Day is right around the corner, and the Grizzlies have a great day planned for Tennessee FBLA members on Wednesday, November 2, 2016! This year’s topic is: Professional Sports Careers Outside the NBA
 
Students will have a chance to hear from high-level executives from professional baseball, golf, tennis, and hockey organizations. After the speakers panel, Grizzlies representatives will lead your students on a behind-the-scenes tour of the FedEx Forum before being released to explore downtown Memphis. Afterwards, students will be able to enjoy the Grizzlies vs. Pelicans game.

CTSO Fall Leadership Conference (FLC) Surveys

The Tennessee CTSO FLCs were a tremendous success again this year! FBLA represented very well at each conference site. All of the student sessions were filled with learning and enjoyment under the direction of the Tennessee CTSO state officers. Thanks for your commitment to enhance your students' involvement and success in FBLA this year.

You and your students' honest feedback are critical in the development of our future CTSO events, so please take a few minutes to complete the following surveys:

Position Opening: Southeast CTE CORE Consultant

Join the Division of College, Career and Technical Education team! The CTE CORE consultant position for the Southeast Regional CORE office is now open. This position is an Educational Regional Academic Consultant located in Bradley County with a salary range of $4,973-$7,955 per month. Interested candidates should access the job position here, and a job description for the role can be found here.

State Leadership Conference (SLC) Design Contests

Student members may enter one, two, or all three of the 2016-17 SLC design contests. All design entries must be submitted here by Thursday, December 1, 2016 and must meet all design contest guidelines.The guidelines are available at http://www.fblatn.org/slc-design-contests.html or by clicking the form links below:
All design entries are due by Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 5 p.m. CST.

FBLA National Fall Leadership Conference Registration Is OPEN!

The  NFLCs are designed to help you build your Legacy of Leadership in the coming year! The FBLA board of directors, national officers, national staff and Tennessee state officer team welcome you to this year’s NFLCs. This year, the Tennessee FBLA state officer team will be attending the NFLC in Daytona Beach, Florida. All Tennessee FBLA chapters are encouraged to meet us there! FBLA Topics, Event Guidelines/Rating Sheets, and Format Guide

The best way for students to prepare for FBLA's competitive events is to utilize the FBLA Competitive Events Online Reference Guide. This comprehensive resource includes event guidelines, rating sheets, and videos. This guide will help FBLA members and advisers prepare for competitive events at the regional, state, and national level. Make sure you are using the most recent version of the guidelines (see below) to prepare for your competition:

Regional Leadership Conference (RLC) Registration

Online Registration for the 2017 Tennessee FBLA Regional Leadership Conferences will be open from 8 a.m. (CST) on Wednesday, November 16 until 5 p.m. (CST) on Friday, December 16, 2016. After the December 16 deadline, no changes, additions, or deletions can be made. Please register your participants before you leave for winter break to avoid last-minute problems when you return to school in January. 

Step 1: Go to the online registration website: www.registermychapter.com/fbla/tn.


Step 2: Click "Registration" to the left of the screen. 


Step 3: Enter your log-in credentials. 
Username: FBLA Chapter Number
Password: tn + your school's 5-digit zip code (i.e. tn37804)


Step 4: Register your school-site testing proctor. 
  1. Click "Add New Name." 
  2. Type in the proctor's First Name and Last Name.
  3. Select "School Site Proctor" from the Participant Type drop-down menu.
  4. Enter "Proctor" in the Membership Number box. 
  5. Type in the proctor's email address.
  6. Type in the proctor's phone number.
  7. Scroll to the bottom of the page, click "Save."
 
Important Things to Remember:
  • You are welcome to register as many proctors as needed for your students to test efficiently. 
  • All proctor instruction emails will be sent on the weekend of January 7-8, 2017.
  • Please verify the correct spelling of your proctor’s email address to prevent delays in testing.
  • All online testing must be administered during the week of January 9-13, 2017 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. (CST) each testing day.
  • You are highly encouraged to test your students early in the week. Please avoid waiting until the last day to test your students.
 
Step 5: Register your members.
  1. Click "Add New Name." 
  2. Type in the student's First Name and Last Name.
  3. Type in the student's FBLA Membership ID number.
  4. Select "Student" from the Participant Type drop-down menu.
  5. Select the student's gender.
  6. Select the student's grade.
  7. List any special needs for the student.
  8. Select the student's event.
  9. Scroll to the bottom of the page, click "Save."
  10. Repeat for each competitor.
 
Step 6: Register additional advisers or chaperones.
  1. Click "Add New Name." 
  2. Type in the adviser/chaperone's First Name and Last Name.
  3. Select "Adviser" or "Chaperone" from the Participant Type drop-down menu.
  4. List any special needs for the adviser/chaperone. 
  5. Scroll to the bottom of the page, click "Save."
  6. Repeat for each adviser/chaperone.
 
Step 7: Double-check your chapter's registration.
  1. Click "View Registration".
  2. Scroll down and click "View by Event" above the listing of individual names.
  3. Verify that each member has be registered for the correct event. Suggestion: Print this page and post for student's to review their registered event.
  4. Click "Back to Registration."
 
Step 8: Submit Registration. Click "Finished Registering."

If you have changes to make, that is fine. Simply log back into the registration system, make any changes/adjustments, and click "Finished Registering" again. You can click "Finished Registering" as many times as between November 16 and December 16, 2016 at 5 p.m. (CST).

Your chapter will be financially responsible for all students and advisers entered into the registration system as of 5 p.m. (CST) on December 16, 2016. 

Tennessee FBLA Competitive Events by Conference

In preparation for the upcoming 2017 Tennessee FBLA regional and state conferences, please click here to download the competitive events breakdown chart to prepare your students.

REPEAT COMPETITORS: Competitors are not permitted to compete in an event more than once at any RLC, SLC, or NLC unless one of the following circumstances applies:
 
Modified Events
  • A competitor may compete in the same event when the event is modified.
    • Note: If the only modification is a name change, competitors may not compete in the renamed event.
Team Events
  • One (1) competitor of the team may have competed in the same event at one (1) previous RLC, SLC, or NLC; however, they may not compete more than twice in the event at the regional, state, or national level.
Chapter Events
  • Competitors may compete in a chapter event more than once (American Enterprise Project, Community Service Project, and Partnership with Business Project).
Individual Entry
  • A competitor who competed as an individual entry in a team event at the regional, state, or national level may compete in the same event a second time as part of a team, but not a second time as an individual.
Parliamentary Procedure
  • Two (2) competitors of the team may have competed in this event at a previous RLC, SLC, or NLC; however, they may not compete more than twice at the regional, state, or national level.
