Bregman done for season

September 28 marked the last day of Alex Bregman's rookie season. Now that Houston has been eliminated from playoff contention, the team sees no reason to risk him reinjuring his hamstring. The 22-year-old Bregman finished the year hitting .264 with 8 HRs, 13 doubles, 3 triples, and 34 RBIs in 201 at-bats.

October 1 games

Detroit 2B Ian Kinsler went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI double in a 5-3 loss to Atlanta. His go-ahead double, which came in the top of the 3rd, was a study in toughness. Kinsler -- who recently underwent concussion care after a beaning -- had to duck his head in order to avoid getting beaned by Aaron Blair's first pitch of the at-bat. Kinsler calmly pulled the very next pitch to left to give Detroit a 1-0 lead. Saturday's loss pushed the Tigers (86-74) 1.5 games behind Baltimore and Toronto for the second and final A.L. Wild Card spot and left Detroit one game from elimination.

CF Kevin Pillar was the star of Toronto's 4-3 win over Boston, going 2-for-3 and driving in 3 of the Blue Jays' runs. The win broke a 3-game losing streak and left Toronto (88-73) one win from clinching an A.L. Wild Card spot.

Los Angeles CF Joc Pederson went 1-for-3 in a 3-0 loss to San Francisco. As a result of the loss, the N.L. West-champion Dodgers (91-70) lost home-field advantage in their upcoming division series against the Washington Nationals

Milwaukee LF Ryan Braun went 2-for-5 with a single and an RBI double in a 4-3, 10-inning win over Colorado.

Reliever Richard Bleier pitched a scoreless 5th inning in the Yankees' 7-3 loss to Baltimore.

3B Alex Bregman did not play in Houston's 3-0 win over the Angels.

Oakland RF Danny Valencia went 0-for-4 in a 9-8, 10-inning win over Seattle.

Scott Feldman did not play in Toronto's 5-3 loss to Boston.
