September 28 marked the last day of Alex Bregman's rookie season. Now that Houston has been eliminated from playoff contention, the team sees no reason to risk him reinjuring his hamstring. Detroit 2B Ian Kinsler went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI double in a 5-3 loss to Atlanta. His go-ahead double, which came in the top of the 3rd, was a study in toughness. Kinsler -- who recently underwent concussion care after a beaning -- had to duck his head in order to avoid getting beaned by Aaron Blair's first pitch of the at-bat. Kinsler calmly pulled the very next pitch to left to give Detroit a 1-0 lead. Saturday's loss pushed the Tigers (86-74) 1.5 games behind Baltimore and Toronto for the second and final A.L. Wild Card spot and left Detroit one game from elimination.
CF Kevin Pillar was the star of Toronto's 4-3 win over Boston, going 2-for-3 and driving in 3 of the Blue Jays' runs. The win broke a 3-game losing streak and left Toronto (88-73) one win from clinching an A.L. Wild Card spot.
