Dear d.tech families,
Intersession starts this week, which means that students are going to take a design lab class in the morning and an elective class in the afternoon. Both classes are part of the student's graduation requirements. Students must earn personal development credits, which are satisfied primarily through intersession classes, and pass four years of design lab. The number of personal development credits required will vary based on the number of intersession classes offered. In general, students must pass at least 80% of their intersession classes to meet the personal development requirement.
Please note that the intersession exhibition will be held on Friday, October 14th in the student's class location from 2:30-4:30. This means that if the student is taking a class at Oracle, the exhibition will be held at Oracle, if the class is at d.tech, the exhibition is at d.tech and so on.
d.lab
This year students have a wide variety of options for their design lab class. Students new to d.tech will take a series of classes which are part of the "fundamentals of design thinking" program. These classes build skills in empathy building, brainstorming, prototyping, and testing.
Students who have experience in design thinking were able to choose from classes such as: design thinking and computer science, toy design, design your life, human-centered art, teacher RFP's (solving problems identified by d.tech staff) and also the incubator, where students work on a self-designed project. All students will be given a letter grade for their work in design lab and will also be required to complete a "Presentation of Learning" in December.
Lastly, we have been discussing the importance of safe travel to and from school with our students, specifically at the train station. It's also worth noting our Suggested Walking Route. It's both safer and quicker than crossing Millbrae Ave.
Thanks for all of your support and have a great week,
Ken
Annual Fund Drive
We are extending our @d.tech classroom competition to end on Friday October 7th. The top three @d.tech advisory classes with the greatest number of families that pledge or donate to our Annual Fund will win a pizza party. We are asking for a $1200 donation per student, but we will gladly accept any amount that works for you. Please show that you support d.tech and go online to donate or turn in your pledge form this week so your child’s advisory class can qualify to win the pizza party. Drop off the pledge form to the Front Office or have your child bring it to their @d.tech teacher.
The Annual Fund pays for the educational needs of our students for this year. Please go to this link to pledge your support and/or start a payment plan via PayPal, your credit card or your checking account. The Annual Fund campaign runs until June 16 so you have plenty of time to make monthly payments.

Dragons Cross Country Running
Coach Cooley’s first cross country meet of the season, and for many of the team members their first XC meet ever, was at the Lowell High Invitational with about 200-240 competitors per heat. Freshman Kate Hayashigatani was awarded a 10th place medal and sophomore Tanson Chan earned a 12th place medal. At the Westmoor Ram Invitational this last weekend, 22 members of our XC team competed in six divisions and captured three medals: Kate Hayashigatani, 12th place out of 157 freshmen girls; Tanson Chan, 5th place out of 166 sophomore boys; and Julia Wang placed 18th out of 90 junior girls. Go Dragons!
Check for games and cross-country meets in the Student Calendar. The school’s official athletic online hub is MaxPreps and MaxPreps Calendar.
