Keeping in touch with tourism in the Derbyshire Dales and Peak District
Visit England Excellence Awards 2017
Applications are open for the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence which recognise and reward businesses and people working in the tourism and hospitality business. This time there are 19 categories, including Self Catering, Bed & Breakfast, Holiday Parks and Glamping. There’s even one for ‘Afternoon Tea of the Year’   The online application process has been greatly simplified and it’s not difficult to enter.  These awards are widely recognised and can give your business a real competitive edge and great PR.  Several small businesses in the Derbyshire Dales have won in previous years – it’s not just for the big boys.

June 2017 Dates for the Diary…
June is going to be a busy month next year, when we welcome two major events to the Derbyshire Dales.  The new RHS Chatsworth Flower Show  on 7-11 June 2017 promises to be a very exciting show - with a Floral Marquee recreating  Paxton’s Great Conservatory and new temporary bridges over the River Derwent linking the two sides of the showground. Less than a week later on 16-18 June 2017 the hugely popular Eroica Britannia vintage cycling festival will take place at its new venue.  We are delighted that after three successful years at Bakewell the event will be staying in the area.

We're celebrating...
A £1.49m bid led by Marketing Peak District & Derbyshire to the European Regional Development Fund has been successful and will fund a comprehensive three-year business support programme for visitor economy businesses.  The District Council is a funding partner within the programme - which includes support to help businesses become more cyclist friendly, development of the ‘Inspired by the Peak District’ brand, support for market towns and specialist advice on how to develop the international visitor and accessible tourism markets.  Keep an eye on the industry section of www.visitpeakdistrict.com for further announcements.
